Questions from Readers

Dear Concerned Hamburger,

I have some questions for you to ask on your website.

1.) When are you going to discuss Greg Wichlacz's behavior as board president? He often wore jeans and either sneakers or sandals to meetings, discussed private contract details in public at events held at UPES, threw a fit when he didn't get re-elected president and is likely not going to run for re-election to the board this spring.

2.) Who is going to run for the board in May? We've heard Lindsey Stephenson, Margaret Moses' relative and Mark Hoeber are all thinking about it. What about having a retired Hamburg teacher run for office?

3.) How much money was involved in Mark Crawford's golden parachute when he cashed out of Hamburg to head to West Seneca? Frontier superintendent got lots of cash. Did Crawford receive the same type of payout?

4.) Some board members allow their children to leave the high school early. Why are these students given different treatment? Are the early release notes the truth or lies to let their children leave the building early?

5.) Is Mike Gallagher one of the finalists for the superintendent search?

Please investigate and find answers. Thank you.

of course the boe vp's child leaves school early. didnt you read the grade fraud thing, hhs gives all kinds of sweet deals to kids who are "connected". mr gallagher should be sent packing. hhs is a free for all, the kids run the building, and if anyone speaks out about it they are blown off. the only thing dr calkins worries about are the fresh veggies in the garden at union pleasant.

Several years ago, a politically active, yet somewhat ignorant Hamburg resident started a blog detailing his perceived injustices committed by local government and elected officials. This blog has been the source of humor for Hamburg residents ever since its inception. The biased, inaccurate nature of material made it clear that the author was removed from reality and had nothing to offer but an "axe to grind" point of view. Unfortunately, the material became stale and boring and readers stopped paying attention.
Thankfully, this new blog has saved the day. Now all Hamburg residents can once again be amused at the ridiculous complaints of a few select individuals with no grasp on what's going on in the real world. Hamburg residents who work in the private sector can take special delight in ridiculing these public sector, union driven employees that do not seem to understand that they are further alienating most members of society from those in the teaching industry. While we all know that the vast majority of teachers are hard-working individuals who care deeply for their students, it is glaringly apparent that the authors of this blog care only about themselves. What a shame that they have any contact with the youth in this town at all.
Now, if this blog is truly about ethics, let us see if the authors think it is ethical to post messages that do not agree with them. I bet not.

Anyone who read those salaries increases has an axe to grind.

Nothing about this blog is stale or boring, this blog simply is a forum that is allowing, me as a taxpayer to speak out.

We all now know that the BOE meetings are secret and only for a select few.

I thank the creater of this blog to clearly point out that it is not the teachers salaries that have caused the district finiancial crisis, it is the BOE for approving those ridiculous administrators salaries.

I wonder how much Mr. Axe to Grind makes a year of public taxpayer money. I am willing to bet at least more than the highest paid teacher in the district.

Salary data from the NYS Ed Department is NOT biased. It is reported by districts to the State. As private sector employee, I am horrified by the salares of the adminstration. and why are there more adminstrators now, than there were 10 years ago, when my son was in the district. Appauling....what on earth can be done to make sure this stuff stops. Do we all need to flood the School Board meetings and put our collective foot down on the squandering of our taxes. When is the next Board meeting? Concerned Hamburger, please post dates and times of board meetings, and if I am in town, as I have to travel every week for my job I will be there with some questions. thanks for bringing this stuff to light, i know many people who appreciate the info.

To those critical of this blog:

The Hamburg teachers are the lowest paid in Erie County. The point of the information and the goal of this blog looks to ask where has all the money gone? The teacher salaries are low and due to the high turnover in the last decade, most teachers in Hamburg are in first 10 yrs of their career-- total amount paid by the district for teacher salaries in significantly lower than 10 yrs ago.

The district's building infrastructure is crumbling, the schools are light years behind other area schools in technology in the classroom. So again, what has administration and the BOE done with the taxpayer money if everything has been done on the cheap for a long time??

Hamburg has been hiding all kinds of dirty tricks for years.... PLEASE ADDRESS FISHER BUS...THEY RUN THE DISTRICT. I heard the schools start times are decided upon what is convenient for Fisher Bus. When was the last time Hamburg opened up a bid for busses? According to the budget we the tax payers pay around $4 million to shuttle the kids to and from school. I hear there are tons of complaints against drivers...swearing at children. Lets give First Student and Laidlaw a chance, OPEN UP THE BID.

Mike Gallagher as a Superintendent would not be a good idea. He cant make a decision. Imagine if he had to decide to close schools because of snow? He'd tell half the district one thing, and the other half something else. Hopefully they interviewed James Martinez, he is the only one that gives you the straight answer. That guy was hired to clean up the high school, and when he started doing his job and results were noticeable, they moved him over to one of the elementary schools....and the high school went back to the mess it was in before he got there. Kids run the place!

Of course Fisher Bus runs the show. Ever wonder why Keith Fisher is President of the Hamburg School Foundation?

Good question: if the district purchases something major, bids must legally be put out. Has the busing contract been bid on or does Fisher have a monopoly?

Ref comments of "Anonymous" dated Dec 3, 2010 10:04 beginning, "Several years ago..."

"Ridiculous complaints"? - We are not amused. There will always be attempts by those who face exposure to denigrate the truth seekers.

"No grasp of what's going on"? - I contend that the plethora of info contained in this Blog demonstrates unequivocally that quite the opposite is the case.

"Authors...care only about themselves"? - Those who would expose wrong doing, especially in the face of organized adversity, demonstrate great courage and ultimately serve the common good.

I would wager that "Anonymous" (in this instance) is either a Board member or one of their lackeys.

LAST ScHOOL YEAR GREG W, then BOE PRESIDENT, WALKED INTO A CLASSROOM AT UNION PLEASANT AND CUSSED A TEACHER OUT BECAUSE THE TEACHER INADVERTANTLY DID NOT SEE HIM AT A COMMUNITY FUNCTION. IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF STUDENTS, GREG W USED A WORD THAT ANY CIVIL PERSON WOULD THINK INAPPROPRIATE TO USE IN FRONT OF SMALL CHILDREN. I DID NOT KNOW WE NEED TO BOW AND KISS THE HANDS OF BOE MEMBERS? WHAT ARE THEY ROAMING AROUND THE SCHOOLS FOR ANYHOW?

Just to clarify - the Bob Reynolds on this blog IS NOT the same Bob Reynolds who was on the school board and worked at Ford Motor Company for 31 years...

Thank you to the person who started this much needed blog. I think the community deserves to know about the corruption taking place in the Hamburg School District, by both the BOE and the administration. It is disgusting.

Hamburg teachers are the lowest paid in Erie County while the administrators are some of the highest paid? I also wish someone would address the district now leaning toward the Lucy Calkins' "Units of Study" as a new writing program. Isn't this a conflict of interest, what with her sister being the president of the BOE? Hmmmmm...sounds like shady business if you ask me. When she came to speak to the staff about her program the whole Calkins family showed up at the school, including Joan Calkins and the family dog?!? What kind of a joke is this? Hamburg is a mess and an embarrassment!!!

hEveryone involved in this drama is creating a war between the schools and the community. Secret blogs and attacks about board members is not the right thing to do.

Oh well, we're the lowest paid in Erie County. Go to a different district if it's the money you are interested in.

This blog is clearly about a secret board and administration that want to keep the truth from the people. Where is it mentioned about teacher salaries? If anything is clear from this blog: the administration and board cannot be trusted. The facts speak for themselves.

"Go to a different district if its the money you are interestd in?" Are you possibly serious. What an assanine post. Hamburg educators, and the poorly paid aides, have been some of the lowest paid in Erie county for years. District swapping is not a recommended career path practice.
