Kids need Physical Education, NOT videos.

According to what was presented at the September 2012 Board of Education meeting, Hamburg is looking into making up the considerable shortage in physical education instruction by using videos to teach kids.

So in an era of serious illness related to obese and sedentary lifestyles, the Hamburg Board of Education eliminated "FTEs" (a.k.a teachers and staff) in Physical Education, and ignored the NYS mandates on physical education.

The Hamburg Community was told by Athletic Director Mr. Witman, that the district will utilize videos to make up for the lost instruction by certified professionals.

Concerned is concerned.

Perhaps, the President of the Board of Education Dr. Joan Calkins and Superintendent Achramovitch are suggesting the use of their own work out routine as valid instruction for kids.

Who knows?

Perhaps, Joan and Steve's video is being used to supplant the professional training of teachers.

Where is the Hamburg Teachers' union?

Have they never heard of exclusivity?
All Physical Education professionals in Hamburg schools should be outraged that their jobs are being displaced by nothing more than cheesy Joan Fonda workout videos.
Kids need physical education, not videos!!!
CONCERNED LOVED THE COMMENT, MAYBE TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE COULD BE HIT WITH THE JOAN AND STEVE VIDEO.... SEX ED AND PHYS ED.  CLICK ON THE VIDEO AND SEE...

So Funny!!! This is turning out to be like a national newspaper, serious news, and then the comix page for those looking for entertainment. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Is that a Jane Fonda aerobics gig?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, "get a life", this is not only amusing, but cleaver and really does lampoon the relationship between the RSB Pres and Achramo. IF RSB didnt want to be subjected to a witty minded blogger, perhaps RSB should do things in the public's i.

I am glad that there is a bit of humor being injected. Thanks Concerned H-burg.

Anonymous said...

I know we are all trying to get a little healthier, but is this going a bit too far? Does Achramos contract cover aerobics with Dr. Calkins?

Klozman said...

Marvelous stuff...Achramo scores again...what a stud muffin! How about a lampoon of that BS'er Wex-lax

I didnt know being on the school board could be so much fun.

YOU ARE FUNNY.

APkid said...

Okay, this is mildly amusing. There is one problem I have with this though. It is childish and immature. By posting this, concerned hamburger, you are only insulting your own intelligence. This is something that a middle school student would post, and It further depletes my respect for you. It only makes your arguments that much less credible. Maybe you are just a disgruntled high school student blowing off some steam.

Low Blow said...

It's one thing to not like these people and voice your opinion about it, but to do something as childish as this, is it really necessary? 'But it's funny!' Sure it's funny. But when does the lampooning, and childish games end and the real change begin?

TEACHER too said...

AP KID, ARE YOU ADMITTING CONCERNED BURGER HAS INTELLIGENCE. WHAT MADE YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND? THIS IS SO DARN FUNNY, MY EYES WATERED. LAMPOONING IS AN IMPORTANT POLITICAL TOOL, ITS BEEN USED FOR CENTURIES TO CRITICIZE THOSE IN POWER. TOTALLY ON THE MARK.

Thomas Nast said...

For those of you that don't get it: RSB meetings are filled with cake and ice cream, dog and pony shows, pomp and circumstance..... The point is know one knows what happens at the work sessions because the minutes are vague and everything is done under consensus. They may as well be working on their New Year's resolutions and losing a few pounds. Furthermore, the video is also lampooning the relationship between the RSB and Achramo. Therefore this video is appropriate on so many levels. I'm sure there are subtleties that I haven't even realized yet.

Zuck said...

Don't forget Achramo is a well-documented womanizer and Joan Calkins says on her Facebook she is "looking for a relationship."

What political figure in history has used lampooning as an effective tool for change? Do tell. It takes a lot more than a lousy smear campaign to get something done in the world of politics. And I get it well enough for it to bother me. I find it highly inappropriate. But, you all are entitled to your opinion just as much as I am. I just see this as another weak stab at the overlaying problem.

Lampooning has been used since the romans and Greeks. It is highly effective. Humor has a huge role in politics. I laugh all the time at the fools who voted for Obama. Heck, didn't hamburg produce tom tolls?

APkid said...

Lampooning IS a political tool. However, it is generally assumed that it doesnt use e-Cards from jibjab. A political cartoon in the local paper would suffice. Either way, this type of lampooning is just immature.

Humor is widely used in politics, yes. But it doesn't evoke any kind of change by itself. That's my point. The Greeks could write all the plays they want but nothing was done until the government acted (pun intended). Making a cheesy video won't do anything to bring about the change you all want. Which, now that I think about it, I'm not even sure if you all know what change you want. Go to a meeting and don't leave until you've said your peace. Do something.

THE LOSER: Achramovitch (Achramo)left Greece Central School System because he was kicked out in June 2010. He left the Ken Ton school system because he was kicked out for shagging a teacher while he was married and allegedly abusing his superintendents position to adversely affect her husband’s job as a teacher in the district also. He is now single and looking.

Low Blow said...

I noticed the newest topic is a list of grievances against Achromo. I understand full well you all want him gone. I'm saying once he's gone, what then? HCSD problems don't just stem from the superintendent. Crumby school board, teachers who don't deserve tenure, lax policy adherence, the list goes on. Sure it's a start but if you all are trying to really change things, get a platform and a plan of action. The French Revolution was a success in removing poor leadership except for that guy Robespierre who showed up. Organize yourselves. Talk is not enough. Put an add in the paper. Make a petition. Take some actual political action.

Whoever called me special, I would like to know. I am not claiming to be. Nor am I a crybaby, however. I am merely stating my opinion as everybody else is, and you can take from it what you would like.
@Klozman,
I understand that there are some incredibly intelligent people commenting on this blog, on both sides of most stories. My comments are generally directed towards telling the less intelligent people to get the facts completely before shouting the first thought that pops into their head. I understand my reputation is unimportant to most people on this blog, however there are people on it attempting to take it down and I dont like that. Thank you for your input, though. It is appreciated.

Hey AP Kid, you are starting to sound somewhat intelligent. You seem to be fairly honest about wanting to defend your honor, sorry you dont appeat to have any. Too bad, you and the other kids in your APclass did not bother to take teachers honor into play when you, and others plotted in conjunction with the sinister BOE, Crawford, Kerr et al to DEFAME my coworkers. ApKid, and his or her less than "C" average students scarred HHS. The results from the AP Macro Econ and US Government Exam are published the grades and the curriculum breakdowns are public, and AP Kid, an average of a 2.15, and a 3.35 are lackluster. What is more telling about your lies, is that the scores are broken down by topic, and it seems that you and your crybaby cohorts scored very well on the the first half of the topics covered and fell off the earth on the second set of topics covered. Your exam results, by student number, are easily available. I have sent them to the concerned burger, and hope he will publish. I think it is very telling the number of 1s scored, 9? APKid,you and your group of classmates are not what we are proud of at HHS. I have never in my 20 years at Hamburg witnessed such a foul group. I am just thankful, you and the rest are a minority. Move on APkid, and leave HHS alone, you got your made up grades now move on.

A list of grievances against the Achromo? What is? It's a list of items posted by two wack jobs in Greece. It's the same with the wack jobs who are disgruntled-former disgruntled teachers who run this site. Make some effort to fix the problems you rant about. If you had any intelligence or higher level education, you'd work to resolve the problem. Where the hell did you go to school Columbia? Michigan?

Concerned Hamburger said...

Anonymous, I could never dream to go to Columbia University nor the University of Michigan. Few, if any Hamburg alums are capable of such greatness, I my guess if any did they are brilliant. Top schools are so selective, they only take the cream of the crop. Sorry, I went to State Teachers College, if you are old enough to remember. I went to school part time at night, while working days as a clerk at Republic Steel, and life guarded on weekends. I was not by anyone's standards a star, but I work hard, and I try to find truth. Though, I retired as a teacher, I still work, learn, think and make sure I have a purpose. I still teach people by way of this blog, and hopefully inject enough humor to make us all pause and realize we only pass this way once, so let our mark remain.

Basketball Coach said...

anonymous 7:36, you must be a BOE member. Do you really need to make matters worse, THE ONLT HHS GRADUATE to go to Columbia University in the last several years was Lindsey Stephenson, and she graduated with honors from Columbia and as an All IVY athlete, then went to Michigan, again academic star and holds the world record in her sport, She is a world class athlete who will hopefully represent the USA in the next Olympics. No need to make jabs at her, Hamburg should be proud of the best female athlete to ever graduate from HHS.

APkid -

I think the point here is that the students in that class that began this string of events acted improperly and the administration continued it.

What is being forgotten here is that the responsibility to do well in class is ultimitely belongs to the student - not the teacher, ESPECIALLY in an advanced placement course.

Let me explain. These courses are meant to be taught at the college level - that is why some schools accept credit for them. These courses are DESIGNED TO BE CHALLENGING to high-level students. You need to understand that many students of this calibur (and I know, not all) are used to putting minimum studying into their courses because the material naturally comes easy to them. The problem lies in that when they are presented with a legitimate challenge, they do not have the study skills or ability to cope with something difficult.

Trust me, you become just a number when you get to be a college freshman - and you will be fortunate to get a teacher who speaks clear english. You quickly realize that you need to rise to the occasion and take it upon yourself to read the text and put serious effort into your homework - or fall into mediocrity.

I knew TONS of people who went to college thinking ther were going to become doctors. They were ranked in the top 5% of their high schools. When they got to college, they were in large lecture halls with student just like them. Over time, the students in the program dwindled down to a handful. It's a harsh reality that there are thousands of high schools out there, which mean there are thousands of validictorians, and tens of thousands high honor students.

APkid, with all respect, you and your classmates are not special. The world is not going to hand you a job on a silver platter. You need to put up with the bad and relish the good. Excel in things you can control, and just deal with the things that you can't.

Whenever I complanied about my teachers or fellow classmates, my father told me "You might not like your boss or people you work with, but you still need to show up to work everyday and do your best".

Let's face it, in the end - the AP students are teenagers. You would expect teenagers to act this way - although you would also expect HS Seniors to know that there is a chain of command that they should have followed:

(1) Talk to the teacher directly
(2) ...if things don't improve - then work harder and deal with it until the class is over

Unfortunately, the ones that are to be held accountable for this fiasco is the administration. Where is the honor in cow-towing to students? They are the ones who are supposed to be learning - and all it seems they have learned is that if complain and get parents and lawyers involved, you ultimately get what you want - regardless of work ethic or ability. I guess they missed the Character Education posters that covered - RESPONSIBILITY, LOYALTY, PRESERVERENCE, ATTITUDE, and HARD-WORK.

True, parents pay school taxes. But what's the point of forcing your teachers to get Master's Degrees if they are not able to use their education? Last I knew, child psychology was a required course for a teaching degree. The district hires their teachers, so they should either trust them or do something more than observe them for one class every 5 years as a means of "quality control".

Academics should not be a business of "pleasing" parents or students. It should be a LEARNING EXPERIENCE for both the good and the bad.

In the end, good students will get into good schools - and those who cannot adjust to the pitfalls of life will be at risk of dropping out.

APkid...stop rising to the bait and becoming defensive; it makes you an easy target. Write constructively and purposely, and get outside of yourself. Criticism from others is part of this game. Blogs by their very nature follow a tortuous path rife with diversions...the end game is rarely immediately apparent and often difficult to achieve.

Oh, I love the 80s, a Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda work out video. Given the state of the district, I am happy there is such a productive use of time in these work "out" sessions. Explains why windows fall out on staff, drugs are the norm, and kids get made up grades.

Anonymous, Concerned is the brightest light to come to Hamburg in its history of lies and deception. Anyone with time on their hands that would dig into the corruption of the district is to be commended, not mocked as you seem to do out of some kind of embarrassment. Are you a RSB member or one of the losers that ran the HTA for years. Clearly you are bitter. Keep up the good work Concerned Burger, you are getting to the dysfunctional people running hamburg into the ground. Keep your head high, you have thousands of supporters.

A matter of time said...

What exactly is social ability? Can anonymous chime in here? There is some anger coming thru with some of these comments. Concerned has only posted facts, and a small amount of light humor, but there seems to be some people bitterly responding. Is it OZ, RSB and Admin? My guess is, YES. Chill people, your misery in Hamburg will be voted out with honorable taxpayers with no need for you and your theft.

Pleasant Ave Resident said...

Anonymous, you are so angry. Explain why? Resolve conflicts? It seems that Hamburger is trying to reveal issues so others are more informed. Someone asked why you so angry? Did you lose something in the revelation of the district? Seems to be so.

Twenty five desks in a second grade class, how are they going to exercise without getting injured. Maybe we should just have them play Wii in the halls like at the high school.
