Stop Passing the Buck

Please read the posting from speakupwny.com, "NEW YORK CAN NO LONGER PASS THE BUCK" [click here for posting].  Hamburg's school taxes have  risen approximately 20% in the past four years [see posting "taxes, taxes, taxes"].  We know that Board continually purposes budgets with increased administrative salaries and most recently voted to raise the salary of Mr. Achramovitch putting him on par with the Governor of New York State.  We also know that as it stands, Hamburg's budget will increase by 6.7%.  So, I can only assume that with both administrative raises and a decrease in state funding highly probable, the Board will stick it to the tax payers of Hamburg.  When will the Board realize that Hamburg is sick of escalating salaries and tax increases?

Pretty soon, I am going to have my paycheck deposited in Mr. Achromo's bank account. What a shameful disgrace that the BOE is blinded and they gave this reject 170,000 per year. Then they have the nerve to have secretive meetings. Where's the TEA PARTY in school politics? If there were 20 applications, and 5 people were interviewed, its my guess we could get the job done for a buck-twenty-five, easy! What does he do anyhow?

Unfortunately for us teachers, our union does an absolutely horrendous job at representing us and the general public knows nothing about administration raises and just think the money goes to us teachers. These inept group of union leaders are so pathetic that they can't see what is happening right in front of them and they are doing nothing but harming the teachers.

if the board realizes about wages and tax increase... what makes you so sure they dont realize and just are not the type to care. I think they care less about taxes and more about their friends and family. :)

Diana...the current union leaders are trying to do something for the first time since I have been working in Hamburg (which has been a while). They are much more concerned with "the good of the whole" union than our previous "leader" and his crew ever were. Under the new leadership we have (for the first time since I have been here) had informational meetings for the entire membership, took out an ad in The Sun, and have a political action team. They are not in the administrators' pockets, as everyone knows the previous leadership was.

The new leadership is definitely better than the old. It is (some of) the membership that needs to get on board and stop trying to get back in the administrators' pockets. That is the reason why we are in the position we are in today: lowest paid and not respected by our administration or BOE.

Diana- you have got it wrong, The OLD union leaders were in the pockets of admin. Why would the previous union pres make over $20K extra on top of his salary(that doesn't count his pay for union pres.) He was appointed to various easy and no show duties that raised his salary. Only coaches and advisors who do the multiple tough jobs(yearbook, class advisor, student council) make enough money to raise their salary that much. It was well known that the former pres. was home by 1pm every day.

The current union leaders are much more proactive. Some may not like their more aggressive style, but where did "Mr. Nice guy" get the teachers before.

Here is a question Hamburg Teachers who think their former Prez was looking out for their best interest.... Chew on this....

How many teachers or support staff work a half day, and have reported income as?

2008: $90,481
2009: $111,040

Union stipend NOT included.

This is reported income for a calender year. So, in 2009 when your former commander in chief secretly retired, working only January to June he earned $111.040. Ask yourself, when the top step is 82,000 and perhaps add on another 3k in graduate credit hours, where did the other 26k come from???? Check out see through ny dot com. And then ask yourself how this guy got a salary so high?? Its virtually impossible unless he was getting his own deal from the district. Then, ask yourself, when he was getting his fat paychecks and going home at noon, what did he do for you?????? Perhaps he cut himself a cash out deal, behind closed doors with Mr Kerr et al. Remember the retirees last year were given crumbs to retire, but the former prez apparently took care of himself. I think the Hamburg Teachers need to look at the real culprits and stick together.

Are you guys refering to the current leadership that endorsed the new board members that voted for your new superintendent? Are you refering to the current leadership that has stood up and said nothing? Are you refering to the current leadership that doesn't know what the hell they are doing?

Yeah, things sure have changed, we traded one inept group for another. Get your heads out of the sand.

Hey Diana, Did you really just write, "Hey you guys?" Are you from South Buffalo, because it sure reads like it, and if so, it is "Youz Guyz". I agree, with you on one level. However, I think the Teachers' union should be dissolved. Why do teachers need the union in the first place? Each teacher should negotiate their own terms of employment. What do you pay in union dues? Its gotta be around $500.00? If you actually think your former president ( the male v. the current female) had a clue what was going on, he sure fooled you. Get rid of the Union.....and see what its like to have to be a free agent! Diana, my guess is you wouldnt know what to do without someone telling you what time to go to work, how much you can earn and what it would be like to have to get out of bed before 9 on any day in July or August.

Diana said...

If your reading comprehension was above that of a 3rd grader you would clearly be able to see I started my comment as a question by asking "Are you guys...."

I would suggest you try a remedial reading program for starters and come back here in a few weeks to show us what you learned.

Good thing Lucy Calkins is coming to town, I may need to sign up. Sorry, I graduated from HHS, and likely had you as a teacher. I for sure had your union former president, and it was the most painful 90 days of my life.

I actually think that this blog was secretly created by either Steve A or a board member to make the teachers look bad. Same with "the recording". Of course everyone would think that a teacher would have created this blog or recorded the meeting. But the "stop passing the buck" post and its link to speakupwny proves it couldn't be so.

So Diana et al, if you have a problem with the union, address it at the next meeting. Everyone needs to stop the public debate about the union and work together. Don't like the direction, run for office. A friend in Greece said that Achromo help split the union there, don't let it happen here.

Don't like a union representing you, how about a salary in the $20K range like non union states. I know people in WV and FLA that make wages that compare to the fast food industry.

Greece teacher said...

Stevie A was know to eavesdrop on his OWN meetings. He has been caught with a recording device in his sport coat pocket.....And, if you look at the Greece Teachers...we were out of contract forever....Hamburg WAKE UP he is not your friend. BOE, you made one big mistake, you will learn soon enough.

The union endorsed 3 candidates last year. Only 2, from my understanding, were voted in. There are 7 board members. 2 out of 7 is not enough to swing a majority vote. Just saying.

Anonymous said...

The teachers association did NOT endorse ANY candidates...they sent out a mailing indicating there were 3 new candidates running. Frankly, what a big waste of time and my union dues. The new board members have not been a voice of reason at any level. There are bullies on the BOE,and I be we can all guess who they are. The whole lot of them have to go....

Joey said...

No doubt the bullies have intimidated some of the more sensible members of the board. Again, we know who they are. Every vote is 7-0. Sad.

Diana said...

The union was telling people who to vote for as board members, just like they told people who to vote for in the general election. Of course they were uninformed and misrepresented the facts.

Like I said, the new leadership is just as bad as the old leadership.

Anonymous said...

Diana you should be teaching not blogging. No one controls your vote, that's between you and your maker. Don't be so angry, run for office and create your own utopia.

Roger Waters has been crying about all this for years. Many think he is anti-leadership but I enjoy the music. The UK has the same issues, its about power and money too often. Sad. Lets get it together, I am proud to work for the school under any leadership bc I work for the students benefit not the Admins. Thats how I get through my days. Hamburg has a bright future, that Im sure of. Tax payers its in your hands, you vote yes or no on the school budget. If Admin has no money to run the district they may listen. :)

Anonymous said...

What does Roger Waters have to do with a school principal that has turned a school upside down? You can not compare the class warfare of the UK with the experiment in socialism called public education in the USA. The UK is in the final stages of dismantling the welfare state est after WWII. Lets stick to local issues and the fact that we got major problems at 4111 Legion Drive.

Not much, but he speaks for the voiceless. WW11 killed people who went to hamburg, please remember the past. What did they die for?

Anti-Diana said...

Diana- the more you type, the more you show your ignorance. I hope you are not a teacher that works with our children. The union did NOT tell people who to vote for in the general election. You are a free person with a brain to think for yourself The union provided a list of NYSUT endorsed candidates. (Note there was no endorsement for governor.) Also, regardless of what office : SB, Pres or Gov. you have no true idea how someone will act once they take office.

If you were an officer, how would you do the job?

The current group is busting their butts to help everyone, not just the inner circle like before. Sadly they have run into a brick wall(SB and Supt) that will not work with anyone.

Lets face it Crawford was the biggest PHONY. Remember when he came to Hamburg, he was "home"...he spent our money on the field of dreams, lights that could light up a runway, started the inappropriate Africa initiative ( we have needy kids in Hamburg) dragged along the dolt on the RSB, then laid off our teachers, cut our programs and ran out of town on a one way ticket. He clearly was a world class PHONY!!! Cmon RSB, open your eyes.

On the following point I speak the truth...This blog is neither a product of Achramo nor the RSB. Does any reader honestly believe that they possess such a degree of aptitude and talent? The Blogger is significant, the content more so. Stop wasting your time second guessing the author's identity. Rather, wait patiently and observe Achramo-Dumpty's great fall.

If I remember, the field of dreams went to a vote. The people voted to support it. I think if they had a true understanding of the financial mess prior, they possibly wouldn't have been on the bandwagon. Now I hear that Hamburg wants a state of the art fine arts center. Whos' going to pay for that, and at what cost?

Achramavitch and Huen are 2 peas in a pod.

Get real. Achramavitch did his deed in Ken Ton with a married teacher whose husband was a teacher in the Ken Ton Dist. also, no wonder they are such good buddies. Maybe Huen taught him a few tricks while Achromo was his student-teacher? Or maybe they are both damaged by the over head light bulb.

Joey said...

Whoa.... Diana got one right (kinda) :

"Diana said...
Do any of you realize that the cost of these projects are independent of the budget process? "

Yes, building projects are funded separately from the budget, but local taxpayers are still responsible for the part of the project that is not picked up by state building project, and that usually includes the interest bonds that are used to borrow the Hamburg share of the cost.

So in reality, taxes will go up to fund a project and a community can only take so much of a tax increase.

"Our goal is to enable you to make informed decisions about whether peer review can work in your district," said NYSUT Vice President Maria Neira. "This is not about saying everyone should go back and initiate peer review. However, it can be one way of ensuring you're part of a broader plan to define and improve teacher quality."

Neira and panelists emphasized two key points: Peer review must be collectively bargained and it cannot be imposed on teachers.

"The key is trust," said Hamburg TA President Cliff Huen, one of several panelists who explained how peer review works in his western New York district. "If you're at war with the school board or administration, don't start this."

Anonymous said...

The vision still holds sway for teachers today, said Cliff Huen, president of the Hamburg (N.Y.) Teachers Association. The Hamburg local was responsi- ble for creating an award-winning peer coaching program in its 4,200-student system, a program that draws directly UOm the lessons learned in Toledo. And, like Lawrence, Huen says that "the easiest sell I had was to the membership" when asked if they wanted to have meaningful control over quality in the profession.

"We focus on everything [new teachers] never learned in college in order to survive," said Kimberly DeGaI, a mentor teacher in Hamburg.

Cliff Huen from the Hamburg TA will compare FDR's programs as governor and president. Dunkirk's Robertson will look at Eleanor's role as first lady in opening the door on women's issues. Lori McGivern from the Cortland TA will examine FDR's relationship with labor and its impact on working families.

All those ladies he mentions in his missive, clearly his brains are rolling around loose in his old head, are nice, but not model teachers.

That allegation is so fascinating that I deemed follow-up essential. One phone call and I was able to connect the names Steve, Amy and Pat (I won’t include last names). To quote a Kenton Blog, “The super (allegedly) used his position to “negatively effect” (sic) the career of his lover’s spouse.”

Sensational…a modern day reenactment of David, Bathsheba and Uriah the Hittite. Think what Eugene O’Neill could have done with this material. Accolades to the inept RSB for impeccably vetting Oz’s choice (Ha!).

The statement Huen can “destroy you or help you” is a scary statement about a retired HTA member. Why is he involved in our Union? He can not benefit from any future negotiations. He is here to help Achramo undermine our process. I was told the other day that my union dues still pays him to attend meetings. I ask you to what purpose? It has already been established that he padded his own retirement by thousands of dollars while he hung the rest of us out to dry. We still pay him a stipend to come to our meetings stir up our membership and spy on our activities and report back to Achramovitch, RSB (rubber stamp board) and administration. There is something wrong with this picture. Ask him to leave the next meeting if he shows up, I know that he is reading this blog and responding as well as Achram. We know that he is the internal spy, and definitely do not use my union dues to pay him anything. This is detestable to me.
