Extra, Extra RSB Work Session

The RSB has newly scheduled a work session for March 16 at 6 pm in the Administration Building, 5305 Abbott Rd.  I wonder what prompted this special meeting?

Debate the cuts in public said...

They are probably going to be told which programs are going to be cut and will rubber stamp Achramo's recommendations so Achramo can say he had Board approval before he notifies teachers on Friday.

What is the responsibility of the Board to notify the public of work sessions and special meetings?

The work sessions need to be attended as well as the regularly scheduled meetings.

Answer to anonymous 422:am

they have to notify the public, THAT IS THE LAW (Open meeting law). Problem many only rely on the Focus or the Sun which is weekly and Focus is bimonthly. Those who don't have access to a computer, would have no idea of special meetings. BEWARE I AGREE YOU HAVE TO GO, as stated by others all the work is done here out of the REGULARLY scheduled meetings. the actual announcemnets in the bimonthly FOCUS.

Blame this mess on themselves,

EVERYONE IF YOU'RE NOT MAD YET YOU BETTER BE NOW, GO TO THAT MEETING ON WED, SEE FOR YOURSELF THE CHARADE THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON IN OUR DISTRICT. WE NEED TO VOTE TWO OUT OF OFFICE THIS MAY. THIS WILL SENT THEM A CLEAR MESSAGE WHEN THEY CUT OUR TEACHERS, AND PAD THE ADMINISTRATORS POCKETS

I still don't understand how they can cut teachers before a budget is approved or even presented.

can the public attend this?

They are cutting teachers despite the errors that exist in the seniority lists. The cuts themselves are terrible and this is compounded by the future lawsuits the district could face due to the inaccuracies. Aren't teachers being cut because the district doesn't have enough money? The cost of the lawsuits could negate any monetary gain. Why the rush? Get the list right, wait for the budget and then make the decisions. Someone seems a little too excited to cut teachers.

We need Media attention !!!!
How does Williamsville, Buffalo and Cheektowaga get there school board meetings on TV. You know on (channel 22) that Government channel. Can we ask them to just show up? I also think if we can get enough protesters before a meeting maybe we could get some news coverage. Last year, I think the news coverage made that board feel uncomfortable. Any type of press would be bad press for the school board. We know the Hamburg Sun isn’t going to cover it in any depth or they will not cover any upset parents. After my outburst at the high school I sent a letter to the editor and it never was printed, but the meeting was covered by two reporters and the SUN ran two articles nothing was mentioned about any upset parents. We need to show the school board that we are not just a bunch of people hiding behind our computers. Even if we all sing up to speak at a school board and just say “I am a parent, taxpayer and a member of the community and I am not happy with the job you are doing” 30 people standing up to them is going to draw some attention.

Harris Beach is raking it in with Achramo...so far 7 Beachbums have been spotted on Abbott Rd with their hands in the pockets of the Hamburg taxpayers. It is costing the taxpayer dearly to use the law to coverup corruption.

teachers united said...

Please attend and support our teachers. The writer is right Achramo will get rubber stamp board's approval for the teacher cuts. And on Friday he will issue the pink slips. Notice how this wasn't done at the last public school bd meeting. Achramo knew than what he was doing and didn't want the public involved. You can blame the SB for this they allow this to happen. The school board is ultimately responsible. Teachers we have to stay united. We vote and so do our families.

Shame on them, all of them. This board and supt. are a discusting.

The lawsuits will come as a result of the lay offs, but this Supt. Achramovitch doesn't care, he isn't a taxpayer in our dist. . Do the math, the amount that he spends violating our teachers makes you wonder if he is getting a kick back from Harris Beach. His incompetence is going to bankrupt this district, and you can blame Donald O and the School Board. I served on the search committee for superintendant and I know as a matter of fact that he wasn't the committee's recommendation. Our input was ignored.

Our district is hemorraging, help stop the bleeding put a tourniquet on this supt and school board fast.
Please show up at this work session, possibly illegal as usual and support our teachers and students. Call the EMT for help.

From your friends in Greece,

we feel your pain. Been there done that, Achramovitch hides his incompetence with lawyers.
We will continue to follow, check out the supreme court and court of appeals web sites, put in his last name and don't be shocked what comes up. There is a lot on the internet regarding good old Steve.

Enough of the bickering..
The board is doing all they can with what they have. EVERY school district is having huge budget problems and the board is doing what it can under extreme conditions. Stop blaming the superintendent and do what you can to help the situation.
I thought after the teachers union slavishly backed the Obama administration in the last election these problems would be dealt with and the national education system would be fixed. The opposite has happened. We thought we would have learned our lesson by blindly backing the Cuomo campaign and guess what? More cuts. The teachers Union should take a lesson from this and not blame the board. I think the Superintendent is underpaid not overpaid. How much does it cost to be able to control these cuts with the teachers Union demanding more money in the worst financial disaster in our lifetime?
Now the teachers Union secretary is sending more propaganda about “right wing hypocrisy” while the state is being run by the democrats. Nice job.
Let the board and the superintendent do their job and stop demanding more when the cupboard is empty. Let’s see if the blog prints this! Hmm?
The plan

Happy "Sunshine Week" CH. Too bad the Sun and Buff News haven't done anything to expose the RSB.

Funny that the RSB is conducting a extra meeting this week. In honor of this special wk, maybe they will conduct a true open meeting.....probably not!!

madamico: I don't think anyone here doesn't understand that we are in a financial mess. The fact that concessions need to be made, on both sides, is obvious. The bone of contention is that the BOE is making decisions without properly keeping the public in the loop - the people who elected them and are paying the bill. If the people in charge were doing a good job, things would be different. The second problem is - they are not. I as a taxpayer feel blindsided because I put my trust, money, and children's future in the hands of people who don't seem to know what they are doing. Yes times are hard, but my question continues to be - how the hell did we get to this point?

Klozman said...

Madamico. “The board is doing everything they can with what they have.” You certainly smacked the nail with that observation. What they have is Achramo - a person whose prior Super jobs have thoroughly branded him as ineffectual and who nevertheless was appointed under the aegis of Ogilvie over the objections of the selection committee. They (the board) currently enjoy and collude with this charade of a manager whose lies and ruses have resulted in illegally dismissing teachers and who will, in the final analysis, stiff the taxpayers far more in legal fees than it would have cost to retain several teachers. What they have is themselves, the RSB - a bloc that serves no legitimate purpose save to rubber stamp the utterance of Achramo and whose members refuse to inform the public or follow the rule of law by repeatedly holding Star Chamber style meetings. All this is but a microcosm of what ensues when you appoint and elect short-sighted, unqualified incompetents. Exploiting the government as a scapegoat is a common ploy utilized here in an endeavor to deflect the serious deficiencies apparent in the Achramo/RSB. We are repeatedly subjected to lies, rotten judgment and poor management, all of which result in a shameful, useless waste of our tax dollars.

Klozman, or anyone who knows, which teachers were "illegally fired"?

Mom for Teachers said...

Madamico,

I don't understand the logic of people who think that it should repeatedly be the teachers responsibility to bail out the RSB, district, state and whoever else screws things up beyond repair. Why should an innocent party pay for the mistakes and wrongdoings of others? Especially when the culptits themselves aren't paying for it? Why should the teachers take a cut when the super and administration don't? If you want to cry "tough financial times" then the pain should be felt by everyone. It is unfair to target one group of people. Also, if it is "tough financial times", why doesn't Achramo act like it and stop wasting money in unnecessary legal fees, far exceeding our past expenditures. As a parent and taxpayer, the most important people in my children's education are their teachers. Not the super, not the principals, not the crappy RSB.

You think our super is underpaid, at $170,000 to run our district into the ground? You also think the people working the on the front lines, educating our children and making $120,000 less should take a cut? People like, you with no respect for the incredible job that our teachers do are repulsive.

MADAMICO,
are you kidding us this new supt does't make enough money here. Well good friend of his tell him to go find employment elsewhere. I'm sure we can do better with less $$$. Let me see we pay this dude $170,000. plus his gas to get here plus another possibly 30% in fringe benefits, give me a break. As I see it the lawyers do all his work or should I say correct all his wrongs on our tab. This School Board allowed all this to happen go take a ride Casey and Greg out of our dist. I will certainly not be voting for these RSB members.
