Welcome March

Well, March entered with a.......continuation of business as usual.  With a cafeteria packed with teachers, parents, students, administrators the RSB continued to conduct their business in secret.  It is of the opinion of this blogger (again for Harris Beach) that it is beginning to appear more and more that the District's business is conducted out of the public eye, in executive and work sessions.

    1. HOLY CRUMBLING BUILDINGS.  WOW, I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE FIGURE $47.6 MILLION ($17.2 MILLION OF THAT TOTAL IS CONSIDERED HIGH PRIORITY REPAIR/CODE ISSUES).  Ummm.....were we just ignoring building safety for years while putting in a turf field with lights and considering building a performing arts center?
    2. Now that the RSB know the horrible disrepair of the buildings, how will they decide what to fix and when?  How long before one of these crumbling buildings injures someone and the District faces a bankrupting lawsuit?
    3. Interesting that the two nominations to the BOCES board did not make the deceptive Board Briefing?
    4. Administrator cuts and administrative salaries were not addressed
    5. Bye bye to 10 HHS teachers, 8 elementary teachers and 6 middle school teachers
    6. Yet to be determined how the cuts will impact class sizes (possibly 24 students to a class) and programs.  Hopefully, they won't just scrap an entire program like last year when the RSB decided to cut the Gifted and Talented program only to leave an entire group of special needs students without services.  Does the RSB even want input from anyone besides the administration?  Inform the public and let them comment before the program cuts are set in stone.
    7. Achramo and the RSB cannot be bothered with public comments about program cuts, yet they waste the public's time with fluff presentations to the RSB from the various schools.
    8. Did anyone notice when Achramo asked if anyone on the RSB wanted to comment on the prospective cuts it was noted that they would just discuss it at the work session?  Not surprised that program cuts are yet another issue the RSB wants to discuss in private.  When is the RSB going to let the public in on the "real" meetings where the decisions are made?
    9. How are the support staff going to be impacted?
    10. Why does the District need to carry over a fund balance?  A teacher asked the question and Achramo just talked in circles.  Last year,  the District had a fiscal crisis and cut 12.7 FTE only to have a $4.2 million fund balance in July?  If the RSB and Crawford misled the public last year, how can the public be sure they aren't being duped again?  Are we going to have to wait months into the next school year to actually know how much money the District possesses?
    11. Taxes are increasing.  What a surprise.  Does Achramo read the paper?  He doesn't even know how much other districts are increasing taxes.  It is sad when those in attendance seem to have more knowledge than the Superintendent.
    12. The meeting last night was very well attended.  If nothing else, it is a victory for Democracy loving Americans,  such as myself.
    13. WHY DOESN'T THE RSB ANSWER QUESTIONS?  It is utterly infuriating that decisions are being made and not one RSB member has the courtesy to give the public a respectable answer.

Boston Valley Roof Crisis said...

Super, thank you for your great post. Can you just imagine putting in a new football field when the roof could collapse on all our children and their teachers at Boston Valley. This is a freightening situation. I hear that they are still considering their entertainment center to be named after GREG W. This is unbelieveable.

Governor is right the administration is paid far too much.
Supt. has no idea what he is doing, clearly uncomfortable here. Supt. you are more than welcome to leave. We need to start restructuring now. Elect new people.

Just think how large the BUFFALO school dist and the diverse challenges Supt Williams faces. He earns $220,000. dollars, while our little dist Supt. makes 170,000
Gov. Cuomo is right Achramovitch is over paid. Show him the door if he doesn't like a pay cut. Tell him to call his lawyers HARRIS BEECH to sue us.

Thank you teachers and staff;

Thanks

New to site and sb meeting said...

Concerned,
new to site and first school board meeting. PTA member asked me to check out this site. I forced my husband to go with me to the meeting last night. I cannot repeat what he had to say about the supt and school board. He is right, we have a disabled child and we are concerned that he is not getting the proper attention in our school dist. Disfuction and lack of concern is how I would discribe my feelings. We are concerned for our kids. Thank you for this opportunity to express my concerns. I am going to follow Super, he knows our frustrations.

Windows for the High School, please said...

The windows in the high school collapsed on not one but two teachers, the same windows....they werent replaced after the first accident. Then the HHS Principal tried to hide the report from the inspector that came in and told him what he already knew..the windows are dangerous and need to be replaced. So, thank you for raising money for an african school floor mr. wichlacz, but we have teachers who were out on disability because the buildings are crumpling. What arrogant jerk that he would even mention africa when we have our own problems. Charity begins at home, Mr. Wichlacz.

All of you who say “in the name of Academia” and are posting to this blog should be ashamed. This blog is set out by a few teachers who feel they have been wronged in some way by the school board and most likely by their peers, the administration, and probably by their own families. They are converting unsuspecting parents to their misaligned way of thinking to serve their own good. How is it that your argumentative and non-cooperative behavior is helping our children grow into caring, loving and understanding adults who will be part of a viable community of their own soon? Or is this handful of disgruntled teachers recruiting our young adult minds and poisoning them with their spiteful venom? I shudder to think this may be an end result, manipulating the minds of those in whose names they say they are protecting.

If someone picks the rotting apples from the tree, soon new growth will ensue and sustain what the majority of teachers, community members, and parents want for their children, to be part of a district that cares for one another and wants to see everyone flourish. Without UNITY on the side of all that is good, we will all fall victim to the rotting apple and apple tree we call our community will wither and die and you will have been a contributing part of that death.

My advice to you all is to get off this blog and take part in something productive in the community. If you want to be an ACTIVIST, be one with a full heart of LOVE so that you can build our community, not destroy it.

Thank you said...

Anyone who thinks the issues posted on this blog are because of a few teachers is insane. The District is in a real financial and physical crisis and to ignore the issues or blame them on a few teachers is ridiculous. Just take a minute and do some research. How could a few teachers be responsible for the following:
1. Buildings in disrepair
2. Hiring Achramovitch (who's sordid past is all over the internet)
3. Negative audit reports from the state comptroller's office.
4. Huge raises for administrators while simultaneously laying off teachers
5. Conducting school board meetings in violation of open meetings law

The list goes on and I'm happy there is someone/people out there dedicated to researching and publishing information about my District.

Confused, Please call or email the District, ask them to explain and share your information with everyone on the blog. My answer would only be a hypothesis.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME THE ROTTON APPLES ARE THIS NEW SUPT. AND THIS INSANE SCHOOL BOARD. THEY CLEARLY HAVE MISMANAGED THIS DISTRICT FOR TOO LONG. FINANCIALLY, PHYSICALLY, AND ETHICALLY . THEY COULD NEVER ADMITTED THAT THEY ERRORED.
SHUT THEM UP, GET RID OF THEM,(the public) HIDE WHAT WE ARE DOING, THAT IS YOUR IDEA OF RUNNING A DIST. IF THIS IS YOU JOAN CALKINS, SHAME ON YOU. OPEN UP THIS PROCESS AND POST YOUR ACTUAL DOINGS AT THE WORK SESSIONS, SECRET MEETING AND SCHOOL BOARD MEETING. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO HIDE WHAT IS GOING ON IF YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT. MORE THAN A FEW ARE DISGRUNTLED, JUST WATCH AND SEE, THIS IS THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM.

You writing, though bordering on eloquence, thrives on assumptions and illogic. Much of it is sheer conjecture topped with a large dose of the maudlin. You present not one shred of evidence to defend your position, but rather resort to ad hominem attacks and the appeal to emotions, both well worn implements of unsound judgment. There is ample evidence to support the arguments presented in the blog. You, on the other hand, can only speculate as to who generates it and why. If the author is a dissatisfied individual, then so be it. Unfortunately for you, it is the disenchanted who power the vehicles of change (have you failed to follow events in the Mid-East?). The contented will do anything, no matter how egregious, to maintain their status quo. Achramo and the RSB have polluted the atmosphere with their lies, conniving and deceit...The king and his horsemen lie in ruins while Humpty Dumpty thrives.
You speak of “converting unsuspecting parents” and poisoning “young adult minds.” The arrogance of those statements is mind boggling. Who are you to insinuate that intelligent, rational beings are unable to sift through the words of others and determine significance from rubbish? The “rotting apples” of which you speak, indeed require plucking...I thoroughly concur. However, you have misidentified the blogger as the pluckee, when in truth the transgressions lie with Achramo and the RSB.

To anonymous 6:06 Please stay off our blog if you feel we are out of line. Many people in this district have had enough. To build a turf at the Middle school while roofs are rotting is just pure lack of repsect for the individuals who go in these buildings on a daily basis...not to mention the children who sit an wait for an accident to happen! Guess thats why Stud Muffin needs Harris Beach?

We want a new SUPERINTENDANT and new members elected to our school board. We love concerned and all that will help bring our district back from this disasterous situation.

What is stopping you all from yelling out and interrupting the meeting? If you want something to happen, make a ruckus. Klozman said it is the disenchanted who power the vehicles of change. Translation: if you're ticked about something, don't leave until it's been addressed; make a change (George Orwell believed if you can say something without using unnecessary similes, then do so). Concerned, you bring up several points that were not addressed that I'm sure everyone would have liked to have heard. Why didn't you stand up and demand they be addressed? And if they do give you an answer but you don't like it, demand more! What's stopping you or anyone else from saying something? I love this district as much as the next person. I would love nothing more than for something positive to be done. By either side.

you have not been to a school board meeting yet. Well, it is a joke. There is 30 minutes allowed for public discussion. Generally you will be allowed to speak, but must sign in and address in writing what you will discuss. At times if the sb doesn't like what you have to say they will shut you up. They now have a police officer who I assume they pay to intimidate or escot you out if you were to persist or demand an answer. Greg Wichlacz has even stated on tape that he wanted Mrs.S tasered. It was played on channel 7 News.(actual recording).
So my Dear friend they will get you or us if we actually persist and demand an answer.

6:06...get a clue! Are you serious? You think that "love" is going to solve the problems in this district? I am all for teaching my children to solve problems in a fair and decent manner. However, it is the people in charge who need to hear your words. THEY are the ones ruining this district. THEY are the ones with hate and greed in their hearts. THEY are the rotten apples. Anyone that can't see this MUST be one of THEM! People that went to the board meeting for the first time posted right here on this blog what a disgrace the whole thing is. This blog is all about seeking truth. It sounds like you want to continue walking around with blinders on, just the way the powers like it.

RSB members that just sit up there and say/do nothing but bobble their heads, why don't you quit the board? Seriously, if you plan on doing nothing but warming a seat, you should just resign and let a person who will actually speak up take over your spot. This crew is pathetic. Especially Calkins and Greg W. What kind of pediatrician suggests cutting kindergarten? I've heard how Greg W. likes to run his arrogant mouth, and I had the displeasure of recently hearing it for myself. Wow, he is a real piece of work that needs to be shown the exit STAT!

Taser awaits,

You're right. I haven't been to a meeting. Not for lack of trying though. My current situation prevents me from going. I fully understand there is a process to all of these meetings and what not but what I'm saying is that playing by these people's rules won't get you anywhere. If you want to change the establishment you have to be willing to step outside the rules created by the establishment. All good revolutions do this. Big or small. So if that means getting escorted out by a police officer or even being tasered for asking what you believe you deserve, you'll gain the sympathy and support of all who are present and hear about it. The SB needs to understand that you all are tired of being force fed BS and you want to really know what's going on. You're kid's education is on the chopping block here.

To anyone in this situation my advise to you is if you are escorted out make sure you have a witness with you and get names. This School Board Supt. will LIE just about anything. Leave with a group, so they cannot fabricate anything on you. Just wait to see the LAW SUITS FOR WRONGFUL ARREST. This just keeps getting better.

I so attend the school board meetings. But all they are are a "dog and pony show". All of the business is conducted in private. HOW IS THAT LEGAL. How do they know EVERY MONTH that they will need an executive session? At least in other districtys the minutes and agendas are full of details so that even if they do one lump passage, the public KNOWS what is/was discussed and what is being voted on. Big fish in a little pond syndrome. Pathetic. BTW - I heard the lay offs were being issued today. So much for "up for consideration". Where the hell is the Hamburg Sun in all of this?

It took a lot for Sally Stephenson to challenge this school board on the open meetings law. I understand that she prepared the documents herself and filed procedural charges at her own expense. This took drastic measures, because as some teachers have suggested the (school board) "dug their heals in" and wouldn't admit that they were not conducting business legally. This is why the change in meetings as well as posting their minutes on line. The SB is moving in the right direction but still has a way to go before they get it right.
