Rankings Commentary

Anyway you want to spin the importance of the rankings, it does not matter.  The simple fact is that Hamburg has dropped in the rankings almost every year since the rankings began 10 years ago.  A former teacher in Hamburg told me that he thought he would never see the day that the high school was not ranked in the top 5.  Now, we seem happy to be above Frontier.  [As a aside it is interesting that Frontier's BOE publicly address cutting EMT, but Hamburg has neither mentioned the idea nor mentioned changing a long standing relationship with Frontier {click here for article}.  I'm sure the Frontier administration and school board are really appreciative to be informed of a possible change in the EMT agreement after their budget for 2011-2012 passed.  It is of the opinion of this blogger, that the RSB will not change its deceptive ways of discussing all matters in private beforehand and then voting in consensus in public.  Despite their public vote, the public has no idea what the RSB is voting on and cannot comment before a vote is taken.  It is of the opinion of this blog that this behavior is a continual violation of Open Meetings Laws].

Hamburg citizens should be concerned with the continual drop in Hamburg's rank.  People will claim that we should not pay attention to the rankings because the results are biased.  I say forget that!  All the population outside of Hamburg see are numbers and unfortunately people look at numbers when they decide to settle in Hamburg, Clarence or Williamsville.  Also, unfortunately for Hamburg, the results are based largely on Regents test scores [click here for the an explanation of how the rankings were done].  The fact that Hamburg keeps slipping in the rankings signifies that either Hamburg's Regents results are getting worse or every other school is getting better.  The point is simple, someone needs to find out why Hamburg's Regents results are not up to par with Clarence, Williamsville, Orchard Park, West Seneca East, etc.  I wonder if the RSB will discuss this topic in public?

What a dirt bag maneuver. This cost cutting measure was not known before the budget vote?

What do you expect from a dishonest supt. My question why does this board of education go along with his unneighborly ways? The public only learns of his maneuvers through the blog or the bflo news. I cannot believe that they are still operating in secret. Spell out everything and stop hiding.

Achramo & OZ at it again said...

Cutting EMT to Frontier? I believe I have the annwer it is simple. Donald Oz. is kept out of the Supt. search for supt recently in the Frontier School district. Thus has no control over that Supt there. The Supt. in Frontier is not beholding to Oz for his job, can tell Oz to pound salt. Achramovitch owes Oz big time so when OZ tells Achramo to jump Achramo asks OZ how high. The only one in Frontier who give a sh** about OZ in Frontier is Janet Plarr she sits on his ERIE 1 BOCES Board which keeps him in power. This is an OZ Achramo message to Frontier that OZ is punishing them for keeping him out of the loop for Supt. search. Achramo is an embarrassment to us here.

Hamburg is in the decline; please stop the free fall. Rumor out there is that they want to close Boston Valley. Any info out there?

leave EMT alone said...

RE: EMT

RSB and Achrmo, keep trying to disrupt a successful and popular program; what is wrong with this picture? A 30 year highly successful program they keep poking at year after year.

SB the program is a good one it works are kids can go from school to work and possibly in other medical related programs. Our volunteer fire companies are served by our Hamburg kids as volunteer's. Wake up leave what works alone.

gallagher not the man said...

The SB doesn't care to discuss anything in public.

Yes you are right we are no longer in the top 10 (or as mentioned in an earlier post we were at one time )a top 3 HS. We are a far cry from those days. Anyway you spin it every school dist has special kids who need extra help. So please don't use that one. We need a change at our High School as far as leadership goes. I believe Mike Gallagher as Principal is not the man to do the job.

Concerned thanks for the information, you only confirm what I believe about this new Suptintendant. A bad seed.

Our school board is failing our kids. We have no excuse for the low ranking at these schools.
Congratulations to Charlotte Ave again. I to would like my children to attend this school. This school district needs to address the question why do we keep dropping in our ranking?

Gallagher is in over his head. Kids run the school. No respect

Administration and teachers are failing our kids. Wake up too much nepotism in our school dist. How many past administrators and school board members have hired their family members even though they were not the best qualified for the teaching position. This is why we are ranked so low. You would be shocked how they take care of themselves and family. We need to attract better teachers and stop the entitlements. I am an alumni and have kids in the district we need to hire good teachers to produce good students.

How strange the teacher's union boasts its responsibility when the rankings are high, but remains silent when they are low.

kids deserve better said...

Shame on us for allowing or accepting this ranking as ok. Our school representives need to do something quick. I remember the day when Hamburg was a shining star in the County. How did this happen? All dists minus the private schools are on the same level playing field. Please all collectives sb, supt. and teachers work together to clean up this mess and stop making excuses. Our kids deserve better.

Leadership sketchy. Supt came here with a clouded past. We ask ourselves why this dude? What does he have on Don O.? No district around here would touch him, why did Hamburg? No healing, no improvements while he represents the school dist. He doesn't have the community behind him. As Greece and Ken/Ton districts where he served as past supt. Warned our district. "he will lie to you even when he knows that you know that he is lying." This speaks in volumns Achramovitch is going to bankrupt our dist.

Fire him and let him sue us with his money. No one here wants a booty call from you Steve, so stud yourself out elsewhere.

The Supt. is so self centered he cannot see beyond himself. Sucked in most of school board members. RSB hopefully will be a thing of the past with the election of two new board members. Let's wait and see, maybe there will be improvement with Kelly, Diane, Holly, and Tom. Kelly we need you for school board pres. You I believe cannot be fooled by this Supt.

just the facts said...

To Hamburg Grad & parent,
I agree to long the Osborne's, Rucker's, Sipprel's and the like were in it for their kids to obtain jobs in the district. At one time you need not apply for any position in the district if you weren't in tight with Ed Osborne. Just a known fact for years until he misled the rest of the school board while he was president regarding the 1.8 million. This is not to say that their children are not doing a good job. It is a fact that they could be viewed as self serving. The facts speak for themselves. Yes nepotism is ripe with these former board members.

too bad for us said...

Nothing new to this item NEPOTISM

Definition-favoritism shown to a relative ( as in the granting of jobs) Common knowledge they would probably still all be around if NYS Comptroller DiNapoli didn't catch the money problems in the district under the watch of Osborne, Rucker, Sipprel and the rest. Never questioned Osborne believed him when he should have been called out. Too bad same thing with Steve Achramovitch, wouldn't know the truth if it hit him in the face. Too bad for us.

Osborne, got caught by the New York State Comptroller and that was it for him a resignation was in order (nothing else done.) That put a stop to him. He went on too long with his ways. Must stay vigilant that new generation doesn't start breeding that kind of poor, problematic leadership. SB's need to question everything from Steve Achramovitch. I to have done some google search on him and this blog is to kind to him. Why didn't any board members who voted for him vet him better? We need to keep a close eye on him.

This board has certainly made mistakes, but this blog blames them for everything. Not one child has failed to graduate from Hamburg becuase of the school board. Not one.
