isn't Union Pleasant's low ranking do to the majority of special ed kids being serviced there and the amount of children attending?

Since when does the special education students have anything to do with that? They have nothing to do with the grading, since they have alternative assessments done. Besides that, these children don't get the opportunity to do things the general population does...so please spare me the disbelief! All I can say is that's hamburg for ya!

Didn't UPES score better this year then last... Is BOCES trying to close BVS because thats what I get from reading the numbers. Imagine how much cash they could get for the property. BOCES is the worst group for the HCSD, like a cancer that keeps eating up our life.

You are an idiot!! People who know nothing about education should not be allowed to comment on it. Of course the special ed population within a school plays into account when it comes to these Business First rankings. Students who are identified as special ed still are required to take the same assessments. Only the most severe of the severe are offered alternative assessments. When you have a 4th grader with disabilities who reads on a kindergarten level, of course his/her score is going to impact a schools rank. That is why the Business first ranks are a waste of time that are only intended to get people fired up that don't know what is going on in a school. Look at the top 3 high schools for example, interesting that none of them accept even genral population students.

Glad to see despite what everyone's says about the district on this blog that we still manage to represent ourselves well. But our SB and super are still buffoons and the high school principal is a fraud right? Please.

Since I'm such an idiot! Doesn't every elementary school in this district have special needs children in them? Pleaase stop being so stupid....a lot of these kids do not participate in the state testing you speak of!

Why doesnt the HHS Principal make up all the kids grades. Why did he stop with the top ten last year? Just think HHS could be number 1. Get your red pen out Mr. Gallagher and change away. Maybe you might get a raise for gerry rigging the high school's ranking. Oh wait, you do get a 4.5% raise on top of that 127K.

Any idea how they add up these rankings.I would like to know if they have a website that shows how they determine the percentages.

How far are they going to let these business first rankings fall before the school board makes some changes at our schools. The Supt, with his $200,000.00 + (with finge benefits) we expect him to improve our situation.

Need good teachers, this is at the core. I agree stop the NEPOTISM stop the special treatments for sb members kids. Stop the sense of entitlements I agree with the other posts. Hire high achieving qualified teachers. Stop the friends and family plan.

This is the culture in our education system. Over paid administrators, larger classes while our rankings fall. Great idea raise class size and expect to help our elementary school kids achieve. I think the SB has it backwards. The elementary kids need small classes for a good educational foundation.
