Wake Up Hamburg High School

Concerned received this note from an Administrator in Hamburg, who claimed they were afraid to mention their name because people who reveal the drug problem get moved to rubber rooms.  And the High School Principals love to hide it, eventhough everyone knows it exists.

 Hamburg Staff Member writes....

"Hamburg it is time to move on this issue. The Hamburg Board of Education has a Medical Doctor as President.  Dr. Calkins, you must stand up in to protect our children from this epidemic.  Too many of our precious Hamburg students and alumni suffer from this terrible addiction.  You, Dr. Calkins, must act.  You must order the drug dogs into the High School, and you must remove any one who stands in the way.  It has been reported that guidance counselors tip off kids that the dogs are coming in, so then can hide their stash.  It has been reported that the Village Police allow the school to hide the drug problem, and go to great lengths, including harassing teachers to cover up the drug problem.  Any day of the week, any member of the Administration can walk in to the Nurse's Office in HHS, and there is no less than a half dozen kids sleeping off their high.  NOTHING IS DONE!!!!!!

Clean up this mess, now.  We do not want to wake up again to the obituary page of the Buffalo News to read about another loved Hamburg kid.

Each and every one of our Hamburg children need our love and support, and we must stop this epidemic, now.

BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPT A DRUG POLICY.

DO NOT WAIT LIKE YOU DID WITH
BULLYING TO ADOPT A POLICY.

From Buffalo News 10/21/11...
“Prescription drug abuse is the nation’s fastest growing drug problem and we here in Western New York are not immune to it,” said William J. Hochul, Jr., United States Attorney for the Western District of New York. “It is an epidemic that is ruining the lives of our young, veterans, the elderly and many others. I believe it is time to address the problem of prescription pill abuse in as comprehensive a manner as possible. What is needed is a multidisciplinary approach from every angle including the medical, education and law enforcement communities.”

Wow you hit the nail on the head. We lost another alumni this week. A young man in the prime of his life. We have a very serious problem in this community and this school district must realize this. Either the Principal is directed not to act or is not up to the task. We in the community don't know what the problem is. We know for sure the district needs to start young and hard on this issue.
When you do have a policy enforce it, let the police do their job, not the high school principal.

I have read most on this blog and I will weigh in that this is probably the more serious of issues. I hope concerned that enough pressure comes to bare for necessary changes to take place at the high school. Adopt a SERIOUS DRUG POLICY and enforse it. Let the police do their job and Mr. Gallagher stop interferring.

HELP NOW said...

How many more young people do we need to loose before something is done? Help these kids and stop denying that DRUGS are out of control at our High School.

Guidance shame on you.

High School Principal Mike Gallagher forcing teachers to change grades again. Yes grades students didn't earn.

Parents watch your medicine cabinet. It may not necessiarly be your kid but their friends looking in there.

you are brave, thank you said...

Thank you administrator for starting this dialogue, hopefully nothing will happen to you and hopefully they will start to take this drug problem seriously.
A thank you to concerned for a voice.

How would you like to teach and not know what will happen? Drugs are a threat to all of us at school.
Everyone deserves a safe place to teach and learn.

Our kids deserve to be in a drug free school. My kids report just this sort of problem. Kids using and dealing of drugs at school or on school property get a slap on the hand. This district needs to do something this drug problem is not taken seriously by the school.

Parents,

when our kids go down to the lower west side of Buffalo, they are probably getting heroin or coke. A lot of parents doing coke themselves.
Yes last week we lost another young man to a drug over dose. We have a very serious problem at our high school.

Parents it is our duty to check that are kids are really where they say they are. Tracking devices out there to monitor your kids whereabouts.

Somebody:

what is the districts policy?

Check out traffic going into car dealerships

Which guidance counselors? Why would they do that? They are educators, not the friends of these young people who obviously need real help!

Anonymous said...

Do a hair sample so you have objective evidence then you'll know why they don't want drug dogs in.

The Town of Hamburg Narcotics Division, ask for Trask

Wake up selectively enforced depends on who the kid is.

We have a real problem at the high school especially the freshman class and you cut the health teachers. Get real

My son and daughter at the high school come home at least once a week with details regarding the drug use. These kids can tell you who the kids are and I'm sure guidance has an idea also.
My children deserve a save drug free school. Thank you

Who was bullied? A student or a teacher? Need more information to process this.

I hate to say this, but I'm beginning to think that Dr. Calkins is as bad as Steve.

If the leader ship would get their head out of their a** maybe they will come up with a solid plan to strickly enforce a drug free school. Principal needs to enforce a strict policy and I don't care how the kid is connected or who the family knows. This was the situation for the last three years at the high school. Sick to the core.

Yes, Detective Kevin Trask narcotics, he is a great officer and one who is up to the job well trained. Call the Town of Hamburg Police Dept. with any and all information regarding this issue 649-6111. Someone needs to do something if the Principal or the Supt. or school board will not act. We have to as parents take this matter into our own hands.

We must protect the kids who want to learn. Stop this the drugs in our school. HS parent

Marilla/Alma
admit that they have a drug problem. Hamburg you are not Maybury although you try to make believe that we are.

We need some serious action now, tomorrow may be to late for our kids. Start right now with programs assemblies with real people who have walked the walk and talked the talk. These kids need to know frist hand from these former drug uses what can happen to their lives. The younger you are the more likely you are to have permenant mental damage.IRREVERSIBLE BRAIN DAMAGE. MENTAL ILLNESS. The Principal and guidance are not doing any of these young people any favors by ignoring them.

Get rid of some of these over paid administrators and use your precious funds on OUR children. Hire the Health teachers back. Put our tax dollars in the classromms not in some Supt. or administrators pockets. Oh by the way Maryvale administrators giving back some of $$$ in form of admin pay cut to the kids. Our Administrators salaries are sick. Less than 4000 students doesn't warrant a salary with finges over
200 GRAND.

WAKE UP SCHOOL BOARD
I expect my kids to have a safe place to learn. Allowing drug dealers to roam the halls doesn't consitiute a safe place.

WE NEED A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST THE PRINCIPAL AND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Call 649-6111 and ask for Hamburg Town Police Detective Kevin Trask in the Narcotics Unit.

Or call their "TIP LINE" at 648-5111 ext. 2847 (A TIP) and let them know details (names, addresses, etc.)

I am convinced most of Hamburg's problems stem from the BOE. Big Fish in a little pond. It boggles my mind that we elect people who have no background in education. The district needs to adopt a strong anti-drug program. Call Renaissance House - they are great. As for admins making too much money - thay want to freeze teachers wages, but don't walk the walk themselves. You must lead by example! Hopefully things will change by the time my kiddos get out of Elem school.

DONT CALL RENAISSANCE HOUSE....THAT IS MR. GALLAGHER'S FATHER's PLACE. REALLY? GET RID OF MIKE GALLAGHER, THE COUNCILORS AND THE NURSE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL. THE HTA PRESIDENT IS A POT HEAD, WHAT ELSE DO YOU EXPECT??? DRUGS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Elma and Iroquois had a great program on their drug problems. Hamburg its your turn.

Went to Elma Town Hall community meeting regarding drug problems in their community
Iroquois school district, DEA,State Police resource officer, parents who lost kids to drugs, reformed young lady who has been drug free for 3 years. Gave hope and despair. This community is proactive with this drug issue.
Cryed as did many other Moms to hear the parents tell how their young children lost their lives to drugs.

Signs and symptoms of Teen Drinking and Drug Use.
Depression, withdrawal, carelssness with grooming or hostility. Also ask yourself is your child doing well in school getting along with friends, taking part in sports or other activities?
* Change in friends
* Neg. changes in school work,
missing school,or declining
grades.
* Increases secrecy about
possessions or activities.
* Use of incense, room deodorant,
or perfume to hide smoke or
chemical odors.
* Subtle changes in conversations
with friends e.g.more secretive,
using: "coded" language.
* Change in clothing choices: new
fascination with clothes that
highlight drug use
* Increase in borrowing money
* Evidence of drug paraphernalia
such as pipes, rolling papers
etc.
* Evidence of use of inhalant
products (such as hairspray,nail
polish, correction fluid, common
household products); Rags and
paper bags are sometimes used as
accessories.
* Bottles of eye drops, which may
be used to mask bloodshot eyes
or dilated pupils
* New use of mouth wash or breath
mints to cover up the smell of
alchol
* Missing prescription drugs-
especially narcotics or mood
stabilizers
You may want to take your child to the doctor about drug screening.

However,some of these signs also indicate there may be a deeper problem with depression, gang involvement, or suicide. Be on the watch for these signs so that you can spot trouble before it goes too far.

School asleep at the wheel on this issue. Statistics to prove this, community has a serious drug problem. Prescription pills at the top of the list. Most deaths at ECMC related to drugs . IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO TEACH OUR KIDS AND FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT AGAINST SOCIETY'S #1 PROBLEM DRUGS!

Kerr knew all about the drugs at the high school. He and crawford came thru one day with the hamburg village police, and some dogs. I think the dogs were little shitzus. None of the staff saw this because they were locked in their rooms. I came in from the Middle School during the event and kerr, crawford, gallagher and two village cops were standing around laughing. It was all an act. Kerr and Crawford know about the drugs, they have protected kids and have harm them for eternity. A serious investigation of these two boys should be done...did anyone notice they both ran out of hamburg at the same time. Now we know West Seneca is on to Kerr and one can only imagine what the people down in dixie thing of the blowhard phoney kerr. Here is a shout out to nashville, let us up in Hamburg know what you think of the creep...we knew it all along. Is he harrassing anyone yet? Or has he cheated on his family down there? Do tell.

Just imagine it Superintendant Steve Achramovitch and new administrators coming in at big fat salaries and Supt. a dud gets a huge raise and now wants us to take a pay freeze. Why not set an example give back your big fat raise and than come back to us and ask for a pay freeze, maybe than school board we will consider it. What BALLS

WHAT A JOKE, I AM HOME FROM COLLEGE THIS PAST WEEKEND. I WAS A STUDENT IN AP EUROPEAN HISTORY. My TEACHER WAS RECOMMENDED FOR AN AWARD. THIS GUY TAUGHT US NOTHING. ALL WE DID WAS WATCH MOVIES (SAVING PRIVaTE RYAN 3X). HE LEFT EVERY DAY BY the end of the day, and MADE up MY GRADE. I am a History major in my 4th year at Albany, and I want to teach. I would love this job, but my High School thinks the schools soccer teacher does a better job. Ask the kid, this guy should not be teaching AP. Tom
