Energy Education, Inc or NYSERDA?

At the June 7,  2011 [click here for minutes] School Board meeting under President Joan Calkins Hamburg Central Schools voted unanimously to hire, at the taxpayer's expense, a private firm, Energy Education, [click here for a link to Energy Education's website] to oversee an energy savings program.  Yet another rubber stamp of the Hamburg School Board that blindly takes the advice of a Superintendent who exited his two former employers under questionable circumstances.

Once again, the Hamburg taxpayer is footing the bill as the Board and the Superintendent squander monies to private consulting firms.  Strangely, Energy Education is the same consulting firm the Superintendent used in Greece Schools.  Shortly after the Superintendent "retired" from Greece, the Greece Board of Education ended its contract with the expensive consulting firm.  Its important to note, the Hamburg Board of Education hired the consulting firm without sending the service out to bid.  Had they thoroughly investigated professional services options, they may have come across the FREE services offered through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Erie 1 BOCES can get it right [click here for link].  Instead of wasting taxpayer dollars on consultants, BOCES went after a grant from NYSERDA [click here for more on NYSERDA or click here for more on k-12 NYSERDA grants].

Why can't Hamburg's superintendent who is paid over $200,000 including benefits, bother to go after grants that can save the taxpayer's hundreds of thousands of dollars?
Absolutely shameful.

Hamburg superintendent, please take note of Carl militello of Niagara wheatfield. Hamburg citizens are on to you, and you are next. Hopefully, you have a good lawyer to get the taxpayer to payout your ride on the gravy train. Wake up dumb and dumber, you are wrecking the schools.

I have received more information here than I have had in my 25 years in the district. Why is that? Secret agenda, good old boys club all helping themselves. Keep up the information, I am actually shocked at the money they waste on everything but the classroom.

NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research @ Development Agency) WHy were they not utilized? Makes you wonder what is going on.

Militello's tale is of particular interest. Will someone address his situation and compare it to the current Hamburg superintendent please? I need to see if we have something to work with or if it will be like comparing apples to oranges.

Dumb and dumber, check out the buffalo news on Monday 2/6/12. Williamsville took advantage of the nys power to schools program, and they are saving over a 1/2 million. Joan and patty, you are two foolish women. Do your job. Other districts are getting real savings and you are wasting taxpayer dollars. Fire energy education, and send Steve with them back to Dallas Texas.we looked at energy education in williamsville and realized we can get it for free from nys. You women are fools, and your wasting taxpayer dollars.

Amen to: live in Hamburg work in Wm.

I agree this school board simply doesn't get it we cannot afford Steve's cronyism with his past contractors. In the end it will cost us in excess of $500,000. Why no competitive bidding. Yes the (Power Authority through its "Power to Schools Program: About 65% of Wm's project cost is expected to come from the state aid". This is not a social club this is actually our tax dollars wasted that could be spend on our childrens classrooms. Thanks for not investigating more into what is available to us as a school district. NYSERDA whould also be a good alternative.

Cut the Superintendants salary. Waste our dollars like this; take it out of his pocket. Hey Steve please don't move here.

The school district is strangled by ego, complacency and folly by these two women. Do your homework before you vote on the Supt. schemes.

No bid contracts are good for the administrators and sb members friends who do business with our tax dollars. Esentially hurting our kids by not spending it on their educational experience.

I can't believe how broke the district claims to be. CH would you happen to know how much money they have wasted on lawyers in the past year or two?

Why no competitive bidding process?
Energy Consultant to tell us to turn off the lights?
$500,000.00 over 4 years does need to be quested. Perhaps the State Comptroller needs to be contacted.
Steve is not an honest man, just inquire into his last two positions as Supt. In Ken/Ton and Greece forced out.

Friends from Greece:
Steve Achramovitch is dishonest to the core, has your school board bull sh**ed, like he did ours.
Eventually we got on to his double bull.

To Neighbor

forget about the donkeys and sheep in living room. How about the school maint. workers doing work at her home. This is theft of our tax dollars. Come forward and report this to the State Attorney General's office. Job security for maint. Keep that in mind, when the cuts come.

The former superintendent of the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District is receiving a lump-sum payment of $50,000 as part of his separation agreement.

The Niagara Gazette reports that Carl Militello will get the money because of his willingness to resign on Feb. 1.

The lump sum must be paid by Sept. 15, according to the separation agreement.

Militello, whose salary was $159,658, will also receive paychecks for the rest of the school year. And he will be paid $36,588 for 55 unused sick, vacation and personal days.

The agreement also stipulates that the ex-superintendent, who is 55 years old, will receive health and dental coverage until he is 65. Niagara-Wheatfield will pay 90 percent of all premium costs.

Two district employee unions had been calling for Militello’s dismissal, accusing him of being a bully. There also were concerns about a large budget deficit facing Niagara-Wheatfield in the coming year.

To Anonymous and those posting anonymously,

It's my belief that this blog concerns the ethics of the Hamburg School District. Ironically, many of the comments seen here are unethical because they contain highly unsubstantiated claims. I suggest that you refrain from posting such claims as it does nothing to advance your cause.

Thank you,
Reasonable Citizen

Williamsville got a power grant from the NYS power authority......no private consulting firm.

Reasonable citizen, what is unsubstantiated? And if you are claiming to be knowledgable on any of these topics, please do reveal your identity so to make you not only reasonable but authentic. Your comments make unsubstantiated claims. If you have a mirror, we suggest you look in it, and ask who is looking back.

I ask you, who the hell doesn't know about NYSERDA? Doesn't anyone read the local newspaper? Other districts are getting grants and help form the State and we pay a private consulting company.

What is wrong with these people. I am reading that the Supt. is going to cut more teachers and staff and the Supt. goes on a spending spree.
