Secret Meeting at Hamburg Administration Building

HAMBURG SCHOOL COMMUNITY,

THIS WAS SENT BY A CONCERNED CITIZEN WHO ASKED THAT I POST PROMPTLY.

Hamburg taxpayer writes,

"Board of Education members, President  Joan Calkins and Member Tom Flynn were at a secret meeting tonight at the Hamburg Administration Building.   Apparently,  the superintendent called a meeting of his "ambassadors" to discuss the 2012-13 budget.  The problem is that the district is in violation of the open meeting laws.  Caught on video, and in still frame, are members of the Board of Education, the father of administrator Colleen Kaney, and private citizen Harold Johnson (who attempted to fill the seat vacated by Kelly Harper).  They all are seen and recorded when  exiting the meeting that was called tonight to discuss the people's business.

Why wasn't the public invited?

While reflecting on this question, one might ask the following;

1. How does one become an ambassador?
2. If BOE members are asked to served, do they not need approval from the other BOE members to comply with open meeting laws?
3. Because BOE members sit on the secret society called the "ambassadors," shouldn't the public be notified, and permitted to attend the meeting?
4. How are people notified of the ambassadors group?  Nothing has been posted on the district webpage, nor in local papers.

Perhaps, this is a matter for New York State Supreme Court.  Video and still photos will appear on Hamburg Ethics soon, and charges may be filed with the courts.

Mr. Achramovitch, please notify by posting on the district's website the names of the ambassadors, and when these meetings will take place."

Discussions regarding our school finances must be done in public with the public invited. Where was this meeting published? I cannot find it on the districts web site or the media. Could anyone enlighten me.

Thank you for the post and the sb meeting.

My concern is the administrative salaries. They are so out of line with reality. Pres. Obama salary is $400,000.00 Supt.Achramovitch is making almost $200,000.00
Governor Andrew Cuomo is right school supt salaries are so out of line. Overpaid, our district is less than 4,000 students, we are still scratching our heads as to why.

our administrators make crazy amounts while they expect the teachers to take a freeze. crazy amounts were saved when the teachers took control of their health care plan - they turned around and gave the admistrators raises. enrichment programs cut. our kids are suffereing. soon we will be hamburg - home to the average.

Just to let you all know my son had two evaluations by private O.T's and had stated he is in great need for gross motor and fine motor.low muscle tone, major sensory disorder and trouble with balance. But the school has decided my son is fine for next year and doesn't need O.T. in school next year.I guess I would fight this but I tried last year when they dropped him from two days to one and lost. The main thing is that Union Pleasant can get away with it .I can fortunately pay with private insurance for qualifed OT but what about everyone else?

bh90006 - fight it - don't let it go - it is so important to get the services early - it's hard to fight ALL the time, I know - but you're the only advocate your son has. Tell them it's unacceptable - if you push hard enough you will get the services your son deserves. Best of luck to you
