The $125,000.00 a year contract with energy education could have been used to save our maint. staff.

These men live and work here and their kids go to school here. What a slick move on Dr. Calkins and Achramovitch's part. They knew of these cuts, Board no vote.

Ambassadors recommending cuts to maint., while they hide on this committee to keep their own safe in administration.

Maintenance could have turned off the lights and the thermostat.
Why waste money like this?

Start looking at the increase in size of our music program. We always had a first rate band, marcing band and orchestra. Today we have the same with more than double the staff that we had 10 years ago. Look at the stats and it is probably larger than that. Oh yes by the way we don't have a marching band today. We need to enforce our core subjects, and look at reducing this program. Why can't we run this program with less staff as we have in the past.

Core subjects, if you want to look at some of the worst student to teacher ratios in the hamburg school district you can look at the orchestra program. I will estimate conservatively and say that there are 150 kids in the district playing stringed instruments (it could be easily be more), and there are two teachers to manage this. Also take into account that learning an instrument requires an unusually high amount individual time with a teacher. I hope that I don't have to do that math for you.

Let ua break this Orchestra Stringa down to some real numbers.

150 students divided by 2 string teachers equals 75 students per teacher. Divide 75 students by 5 days and you have 15 students per day. Core teachers have in excess of 110 or more students per day.

The calculation portrays the situation in a simplified and incorrect manner. That is as far as I will go.

Where are the numbers wrong for the strings? I did't memtion that these 15 students per teacher per day are also group lessons. Granted strings especially violin are a tough instrument to learn but this department has grown to almost double its size in the laat 15 years. The # of students hasn't changed much. What has changed is that the director dropped our much loved MARCHING BAND.

Hamburg you took a load off north Collins when you got barb s, the business director. She never came to work in north Collins, and when she did she was late. Then, someone had to teach her to use a calculator. Watch out
