Concerned Hamburger recommends to all teachers the following

Concerned Hamburger came across this blog from the South Bronx, New York.   All teacher should have a look at what South Bronx recommends as back to school supplies for teachers.  Yes teachers, if you have learned anything in the last several years in Hamburg it is: do not trust the administration, the Board of Education and one may even argue your do nothing teachers union.  Concerned receives scads of emails on a daily basis, and from we can tell, it would be wise for teachers to invest in some or all of the back to school supplies recommended by your fellow educators downstate.

Happy Reading....

P.S. You may like to read what South Bronx has to say about the Lucy Calkins Reading Program.

I see in today's buffalo news that hamburg is offering a paper shredding day. Is achramo and joaner gonna shred all the evidence against them???? In our opinion they both should be in the lock up.

My wife and I were out with some Hamburg school teachers the other night. I am not a teacher, but my wife has been teaching in the northtowns for years. I am an educated professional engineer, and work in the international environmental engineering arena, and spend almost 3 months per year in China and Vietnam. Prior to moving to Buffalo several years ago, I was on a one year project in several former Soviet states, like Ukraine. I like to think I have a global perspective. Anyway, some of the Hamburg teachers directed us to this blog (wow, does this stuff really go on?) and the one of the guys went on to say that there is a graduate of the London School of Economics on staff, with two degrees from that school. Then, we were told that this teacher hasnt been teaching Economics in the schools for going on three years, because the District is hanging her/him out to dry. I just did not believe it one bit, so I called around and found out it is true. My wife and I have had children in Hamburg, and I am astounded that such childrens play comes in. I have worked with graduates from the London School of Economics and I am shocked that Hamburg has a graduate of this calibre on staff, and the person isnt teaching Economics. We heard entry level American History. Is this really the kind of thing thats going in our schools? Check this out for the rankings.... The Guardian is a liberal daily newspaper in Britain.

JUST SAY NO said...

Hamburg High School Teachers, Enough is Enough...you are blindly accepting to do work with no pay. 9-6 is your parent teacher meetings after the contractual time of 3:20. IT IS NOT IN YOUR CONTRACT, YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO GO. STAY HOME. IT WAS SPEAK VOLUMES. IF YOU REMEMBER, CLIFFORD NEVER ATTENDED OPEN HOUSE. JUST SAY NO. YOU TEACHERS HAVE BEEN DOOR MATS FOR TOO LONG. TAKE A LOOK AROUND, YOU ARE DOING FAR MORE WITH LESS, AND THEY MAKE YOU COME IN AT NIGHT. HOW MANY NEED TO PAY BABYSITTERS? DONT BE FOOLS.

Did someone actually suggest that teachers not go to parent/teacher conferences? This is now bordering on the absurd. So I guess parents should take the day off of work so we dont inconvenience the teachers? If you guys wat to be taken seriously, you might want to get the parents on your side. Trust me, its not happening now.

Maybe Joaner should park herself on North Street? nice article in the News this morning regarding the conduct of Hamburg kids. This is the same behavior they exhibit in school. Mr Gallagher tolerates it, and does nothing. Mayor Moses didn't a teacher go to the village police about the drug problem two summers ago, and told the police about the problems, that teacher was transferred out of the high school because you, sharrra and Cullen wrote to the school board. All teachers know this. So Moses join Joan in the world of hypocrisy.

Eileen Rucker, mother of teacher Amanda Bolin, and former BOE Pres, when the district was hiding the theft of 1,8 million refused to sign the petition to get the out of controll Hamburg High Students off North Street. Former BOE Pres Mrs Rucker, you helped ruined the district by covering up for ED Osbourne....you should play nice. You and your daughter benefitted greatly from Uncle Peter. Wasn't cases of wine given when Amanda a first year teacher give as a gift???? Hmm, lots of scummy moves...people are watching former BOE as they try to hide their sick decisions. Let's see what the courts say! These are opinions that could be underscored with tape recorded conversations

Please don't for a minute think that the teachers are not there for the kids and parents. The opinion of some is not that of the majority. I have had nothing but great experiences with Hamburg teachers. As a taxpayer, I am heartbroken that the district has its priorities mixed up. Why are we paying all this money in taxes to give raises to admistrators and my daughter is in a class of 25 plus? I don't believe that teachers expect to be wealthy, but if you look at the free / reduced lunch chart that came out many HCSD teachers w/ 3 + kids qualify. I want my kids' teachers to make a competive wage. I want Hamburg to attract and retain the best. We don't complain when the state or county gives funds to private businesses to attract the best and brightest. It's the same tax dollars. I don't begrudge them one cent. We all make choices. Until you walk in someone's shoes it is not fair to judge. The amount of time and education required to be a teacher warrants a competive salary. God bless you Hamburg teachers. Have a great school year and know that the majority of the public is greatful and thanks you.

To comment, 9:05am!! Wrong again!!!
---parents are more than ever on the side of the teachers at Hamburg and have become very actively engaged in helping support teachers at Hamburg!! Guess you didn't here about the new member on the Bd of Ed.,; Sally that was elected by the parents or community. That spoke volumes regarding the attitudes and understanding the community has for their educators.... But that's alright, now you know the truth and its all because your better informed. Glad the blog could help out...have a blessed day.

As a resident on North St. I witnessed a student spit at my neighbor for asking the young man to pick up the trash he threw on his lawn. The lack of respect of property and us residents is something new in the last 3 to 4 years. The behavior of the high school students is declining.

Where is the Principal or the Vice Principal? This would never have been tolerated under the watch of High School Principal Larry Hood. He had the fear and respect of the students. Please Village District do something and soon. It is getting dangerous for us.

Eileen Rucker doesn't like her neighbors. She is special like Dr. Joan Calkins. They believe in their small world that they own the Hamburg Central School District. Discussed North St.

Fire Calkins, she has forced her sisters program down our throats.
ANyone who doesn't support this program will have a bulls eye on their back.
This is how Dr. Joan Calkins and Supt Steve Achramovitch work.

Joan Calkins has targeted a few of our teachers. She is vengeful and dishonest. control freak.

Dr. Calkins should know kids require time and love. Give some

After attending the High Schools open House I have to give a hats off to the teachers and students. How anyone is expected to learn, teach or work in the high school when it’s that hot is beyond me. I can only imagine how hot that school gets when there at 1,600 people in the building. I had to leave some of the rooms where my child has class because the room was so hot. It makes me think with all building improvements that have been going on was the lack of AC looked in too . Now I get that its really only hot at the beginning and end of the year. But if I cant stand to be in some of those rooms in the evening can you imagine how hard it is to take finals and regents at the end of the year… something needs to be done.

HVAC said...

Super,

Don't worry the administration building and each school's office has A/C.

To save money, we should turn off all A/C except computer labs.

Parents- fight back against bad education policy forced on our kids. Acrahmo is all too happy to force our teachers to give more and more tests to our kids. Heard about Aimsweb? It will be given to our kids, as young as five throughout the year. Something called SLO is forcing every teacher to give more tests early in the school year. Ask your child's teacher and principal at open house. Heard some parents are following Chris C's advice and pulling their kids from tests.

My son came home complaining that he had no where to sit during one of his classes at the middle school. Apparently there are over 30 students in his class and there were at least four students without anywhere to sit. How are kids supposed to learn with that many people crammed into one room? He said that other classes were just as large. I am seriously concerned with class size in our district!

Can someone tell me where to find the results of last years exams? My son is sitting in his regents chemistry class with 30 students and a with a teacher that has never taught chemistry before. My daughter also took chemistry there and did well with a teacher that was let go. I would like to see all of the departments scores on the regents exams during the past 3 years since we have let some very experienced staff go. Have the scores/results dropped? What about the graduation rate over the past 3 years?

Recently at a retiree luncheon my group of friends and myself were brought up to speed regarding the districts web page. I was ahocked at the message Dr. Calkins posted. Since when is the district using the districts web page as a political poster?

I supported Joan, Laura and Sally this past May. This coming May my little group will be supporting Laura and not Joan. There is a time and place for that sort of thing but not on districts property. Dangerous making statements that are hurting our school district.

Thank you for the web page.

I do not know how any student is expected to learn anything in the classrooms of HHS with the exception of the few that are taught by the truly dedicated teachers. Having my children come home and say how they only talked about "other teachers" or the problems that are happening within the staff and administration of HCS within there class periods instead of following a lesson plan. I think it is truly sad that teachers have been bringing there own personal agendas into the minds of the students rather than preparing them for higher level education. I do not make these accusations up due to the numerous first hand experiences I have been told by students of that school.

To all teachers,

I don't know of these possible rumors. What I do know is that no matter how we may at times disagree, we must as a profession band together. Administration has gutted our classrooms and from what we are hearing the majority of the board at the direction of our Supt. is planning severe cuts to our teaching staff again. Look at our HS science dept. Stupid or what?

So sad to the science department...what careers are important in Buffalo? Obviously not the health/science corridor in downtown Buffalo. Such a shame!!

I was told today that parents are crying a river of tears because their teacher made the students write research papers in a history class. Parents only want kids to write in English class.....does anyone want to guess why kids have to be remediated in college??? I am a teacher in williamsville, and we write in all our classes and do research papers in every grade level. No wonder we are the best, and hamburg is well.....hamburg, bad at sports and a low ranked district. Good job parents, when your kids can't write, look in the mirror. Perhaps you would prefer a video, like the kids are going to get in gym.

WE HEAR THAT NZ IN MUSIC DEPARTMENT IS PUSHING HIS CHRISTIAN RIGHT OBJECTIVES..... MEANWHILE KIDS ARE SUFFERING, BECAUSE HEALTH ED AND LIFE SKILLS HAS BEEN CANCELLED. JOAN, YOU ARE A SHAME. To Mill Middle School Teacher,

I agree, anyone or anything that gets my kids to write better than they text is ok with me.

Conversation the other day with my group of friends. We were complaining about class size and I know that education is under attack, just look at the News everyday. What was so upsetting my friend a former bd member in another district said to us " in order for your kids to get a decent education you need to move to Orchard Park, Williamsville or Clarence." This was not always the case, since I am a graduate of Hamburg, along with most of this group this was truthful and hurtful. I love this district and now I am freighted for our future. I know many of the teachers and it is not them . large class size, loss or drastic cuts to science and GT program. The administration should be embarrassed. Our school when I was a student was ranked with the best of them. I am seriously thinking of moving to O.P for our kids.

Dear Parent I presume, as I am.

Where have you been remediation in English and Math for our students in college is the norm. What does that mean is that 6 credit hours that you pay for are not going towards graduation. Hopefully this remediation brings my or your child up to speed to be able to do the college course work. Sorry to enlighten you but we were once one of the best. I know because all my siblings have graced the halls. We could navigate right into great University's not so today, only a few get the privledge. Kids need to be made accountable this is not a perfect world. We need to have our children think about not only themselves but others and be careful about the gossip that is spread it could be about you or me.
Parents have been known to bully teachers and our kids know that they have that power. Be careful it is what it is gossip and our kids know they run the schools, because we have allowed this travesty to exist.

Retired Ann

I was at the teacher retirees luncheon, just looked at the school districts Presidents message.

This is not good for the district, the teachers or any teacher in this district. The President has encourged a back lash toward this teacher, a bad message to anyone who has had an issue with the district. I remember when a situation in Armor with the Principal , you couldn't pry anything out of the district regarding this. It was a court battle and protected all parties. I am embarrassed for our district that our school board has stooped to this low level.

CH why did the teacher at Boston valley who was the teacher of a bullied kid wo th teacher made fun of because of his name. Why wasn't she fired? She was at my kids school armer last year and she caused a situation with the students an male teacher. Can you find out? Thinking of sending my others to a charter school. Why don't we know ths?
