The clubs that were cut are:
This student, who wishes to remained anonymous, because she is afraid that if she had her name published on this blog, the district would somehow or another make her life miserable. She claims she has seen it happen, and she knows her parents have been called by members of the Board of Education and others asking to cause trouble for teachers. This young woman is afraid to voice her opinion. What a horrible situation for a young person to experience at the hands of people who claim to care about our youth. What a sick fear for a young person to have in America.
Concerned is Concerned
Mr. Gallagher elected to cut four clubs at Hamburg High School so the district could save a grand total of less than $4,000.
What criteria did Mr. Gallagher use to cut these clubs?
We wonder why he apparently selected clubs which attract young people who likely identify with more socially liberal activities?
We wonder where these young people will go after school?
We wonder how will these young people learn to creatively express themselves in dramatics and writing in a school system which apparently has no respect nor desire to promote self expression.
Shame on Hamburg Board of Education and Mr. M. Gallagher. You are cutting less than $4,000 in clubs while aggressively spending taxpayer dollars at the Harris Beach Law firm and installing high powered security cameras up and down the hallways of Hamburg High School.
We were once told, Democracy does not disappear overnight, it disappears one small decision after another.
The students of Hamburg High School and the community needs to squarely address this issue. These children need community support.
One wonders if the likes of so many of the great Hamburg alums would have made it to their station in life without the full support of the community.
