A MESSAGE TO HAMBURG TEACHERS

Hamburg Teachers

VOTE NO ON APPR

Concerned got an email from a Hamburg teachers union member with the vote from the last APPR vote. If teachers will recall, the vote that took place last January on APPR was also shrouded in controversy.   The teachers in Hamburg voted in January 2012, and approved an APPR which expired in June 2012.

As Concerned was reminded by a reader, APPR was sent to the Board of Education in the fall of 2011, and approved without the teachers knowledge.  The Superintendent and former district administrator Greg Davis attempted to dupe the Board of Education into thinking the teachers approved APPR.  This was simply another lie told to the Board of Education ( which apparently does not bother the BOE).

The teachers know, as a matter of fact, any changes to the teachers contract must be presented and voted on by the teachers. Simply put, the teachers control their contract, not John Mrozek and Steve Achramovitch.

The teachers should know that APPR changes the teachers contract and also provides the administration a "backdoor" to get rid of teachers they simply do not like, or who are making too much money.  Teachers who are on the top step of the teachers pay plan should realize they represent a huge expense for the district, and can be replaced by two teachers entering the pension system on Tier 6. APPR should be viewed by all teachers as a legalized method to deteriorate tenure.

Concerned was provided a copy of the APPR agreement, Mr. Mrozek signed the day the schools closed for Winter recess, and Concerned is Concerned.

Why would the president of the teachers union sign a contract, before the teachers voted on the issue?  Teachers demand an answer.

Teachers in Hamburg, how much more are you willing to give up? Please be reminded, when the teachers voted on the last APPR agreement, which expired in June 2012 they voted on two items, and the vote and results were as follows:

The 1st item was the Vote for APPR:
153 Yes              117 No

The 2nd item was the appeals process for APPR:
157 Yes              111 No

It is clear that the APPR plan and the appeals process were not overwhelmingly successful with the teachers.
APPR passed with only 36 votes!!!
Thats approximately 13% of the total number of teachers who voted.

Oddly, Concerned noted ,while reading the most recent APPR plan that the President of the teachers union, John Mrozek, illegally signed before the teacher vote, that the
APPEALS PROCESS ATTACHMENT WAS NOT ATTACHED!!!

Teachers in Hamburg Central Schools you are being played by your union and your employer.

 VOTE NO on APPR

Send a loud and clear message to Steven Achramovitch and John Mrozek that their style of doing business is not welcomed in Hamburg.

You are asking teachers to vote "no" on APPR so that the district (AND THE KIDS) will lose $700,000. That's just not smart!

The bogus APPR plan that was not written nor agreed upon by the APPR committee, nor read or agreed upon by the contract committee, nor presented for discussion to either the rep assembly or the general membership CANNOT be brought to a vote. That can't happen. The plan to vote must be stopped. The teachers have fallen for this trick once before and once was more than enough: a CONTRACT that is horrible for our teachers, going forward, was presented for a vote. Then Acromavitch figured out exactly how many teachers' jobs to threaten with firing if the contract did not pass thereby forcing the correct number of teachers to vote for his proposed plan to get it passed and now everyone is stuck with one of the very worst contracts in all of Western New York. It is the union's job to stand up to an unscrupulous superintendent and effect what is best for it's teachers. There will be no voting unless and until we have an agreement constructed honestly and in good faith.

Worried about the 700K? Thats odd. What about the 1.4 million that the district is going to lose because TOM BAGLEY DID NOT FILE PAPER WORK ON TIME, OR THE OVER HALF MILLION STEVE HAS SPENT WITH HARRIS BEACH..and there are many other law firms. The student harassment case at Boston Valley cost the district almost 100k. Steve makes over 175K per year, and you are worried about the 700k? Really, then ask STEVIE why he played games with the HTA...this superintendent has to go. He is going to cut jobs anyhow...one from each core subject, we heard a 1/2 dozen guidance counselors ( each school will have two) music is going...and special ed is going to shared services. Hamburg Special Ed is the fattest in the area. Dont worry about the 700k! He will make it up when he gets rid of the top step teachers. Ask Steve about his lawsuits....district started each and every issue it is now paying for.

I agree that the vote is very rushed, with no discussion and not enough information. No employee anywhere would vote for an evaluation plan that they didn't have the chance to read or discuss with their colleagues.
In all reality, Achramovich is going to cut positions and programs no matter what amount of money the school district receives from the State- and admin will continue to get increases in their health care and salary.
If you haven't read all bargaining units contracts, it is an interesting read-- http://hamburgschools.org/Page/8392

The Hamburg Administrative Council contract is on the distric webpage, but its the old one. The one the district published is expired, and a new one is in effect. And if you google the salary of mike gallagher, his is beyond the salary schedule. It is smoke in mirrors folks....they are robbing the district blind. WHY DOESNT JETTER THE PERSONNEL GUY PUT THE SUPERINTENDENTS CONTRACT ON THE DISTRICT HOME PAGE? WHERE IS RICK JETTERS CONTRACT. THEY ARE A BAND OF THIEVES!!!!! WAKE UP HAMBURG!!!! YOUR ADMINISTRATORS ARE GETTING 4 PERCENT RAISES ON SALARIES OVER 100K . DO THE MATH!

Voting yes is slitting our own throats.

vote no

How many times does Steve Achramovitch have to lie to us before we get it? His words are meaningless because they are all lies.

All is out there and verifiable. It is proven the supt. cares little for education, he cote ares only about his own preservation here.

Voting No is a vote of no confidence for Steve Achramovitch and his dishonest plan for us
