Merry Christmas Superintendent Achramovitch Style

Here is the latest from Ebenezer Achramovitch:

Concerned reviewed several emails from Hamburg teachers and staff since Friday December 21, 2012 dealing with an email that was released late Friday from Hamburg Teachers union President John Mrozek.

Apparently, Mr. Mrozek and Mr. Achramovitch struck a late in the day Friday deal on the NYS required APPR plan.  All districts in NYS are required to submit their agreed upon and ratified APPR plan to NYS by January 15, 2013.  Hamburg remains the only district in Erie County, other than Buffalo Public Schools, that has not submitted a plan.  And Governor Cuomo has repeatedly stated "No Plan No Increase in School Aid"

Great News for Hamburg, right? Nope, wrong!

From what we were told, Hamburg School District and the Hamburg Teachers Union had in place an APPR committee.   The APPR committee which has been in place for about two years has six representatives from the school administration, and six teacher representatives.  The teacher representatives are selected by the Union President John Mrozek.  The sole purpose of this committee is to develop an effective and fair annual review of teachers, which would also affect building administration- a trickle up evaluation.

The APPR committee submitted a plan to Mr. Achramovitch early the week of December 17, 2012, and he apparently did not like what he saw. So, Mr. Achramovitch called a meeting of the Article VII committee, which is a joint union administration committee to deal with matters related to curriculum and instruction.  The Article VII committee was called together late Thursday for an emergency Friday meeting.  From what was reported to Concerned, APPR and Article VII are separate committees, neither having anything to do with the other.  From what we were told Mr. Achramovitch gave the APPR committee developed APPR plan to the Article VII members, and harangued them into making the changes that he wanted in the document.  Article VII members complied with the Superintendent's requests, and in so doing effectively nullified the work of the APPR committee.

It looks like foul play and a dirty way to get what Steve wants.

So, what does the UNION do?
Here is the part that most of the people who wrote in were concerned about: President of Hamburg Teacher signed the document that Article VII mutilated.  So, the questions are pouring in: Why did President Mrozek sign the document that was not what APPR created, and that was not voted upon by the membership? Some teachers are angry because the APPR plan never was reviewed by the teachers contract committee.

Teachers are reporting that Mr. Mrozek went around them and signed a deal because he too was harangued by Mr. Achramovitch. What kind of union president allows themselves to be bullied? (seems like another post for another day) The teachers were told in a email by Mr. Mrozek that they must vote on APPR the day they return to school January 2, 2013, because the APPR document is due to the NYS on January 3, 2013.  This is simply not the case, APPR plans are due January 15, 2013.

It appears the teachers in Hamburg have a spineless union President, who takes his cues from a bullying Superintendent.  Mr. Mrozek: You can not sign an agreement that modifies the language of the teachers contract without the changes going before the teachers union for a vote, first.  Signing a document, and hoping, or manipulating it into reality is a dangerous game.  It was suggested by all of the teachers who wrote into us, that they want the vote to be delayed until they are told what is going on.  What union would every schedule a vote the day the staff returns from a 10 day break from work?

Many teachers are concerned and smell a rat.

In additional to wandering the conference rooms and offices at the Hamburg School Administration building, the rats have taken up a home in the office of Dr. Joan Calkins.  A teacher wrote to us and told us about a young male student who came to school reporting that Dr. Calkins told him at his last doctors appointment early the week of December 17, 2012 that if his teachers do not sign this agreement, the school would be forced to cut his wrestling team.

NICE JOB DOCTOR CALKINS, GLAD TO KNOW YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR PATIENTS,  AND THEIR FEELINGS.  YOU SHOULD LOSE YOUR M.D. LICENSE FOR THIS KIND OF THING, YOU ARE A CRAZY WOMAN.

The HTA needs to get rid of John Mrozek

We need a union president who knows what teams he is on.

John better be representing us not achramovitch. We had a plan that our committee worked on, not Achramovtch's plan. What changes are in this important document? It is our document not the dishonest Supt's.

I will not vote on anything that is not in our best interest.

It is unfortunate that who ever has John's ear last has him, he is appearing wishy washy.

That is the wisest comment ever written on this blog.

I am a teacher and I dont even know what Article VI is? It seems to be part of the problem, behind the curtain shadey deals being made. I know many teachers emailed John Mrozek about this, and no one has heard back from him. It kinda reminds us of Cliff. The best President we had was Kathy Fendiya, atleast we knew there was no sneaky crap going on. Did she retire? We heard Cliff still goes to HTA meetings...will that guy just give it up?

The union really needs to consider a vote of no confidence against their president - he has no idea what he is doing? Have you ever seen him run a union meeting? It is pathetic, to say the least. Being mayor of a small rural community does not necessarily make him capable of being the union president, as evidenced by his performance, or lack thereof.

To all top step or near top step teachers,

achramovitch's grand scheme to rid the dist. of you with a younger cheaper replacement.

We have not seen the appr changes and the tools we are giving achramovitch to target senior members of our hta.

Can you FOIL the full copy of the School Board's annual evaluation of the Superintendent? I'd be interested to see how Achramovich was rated on all 55 aspects of the evaluation and whether it aligned with his extended contract...

Top tier teachers shoud be wary of what the supt. we are on his financial ledger to balance his budget. After all these years it comes down to the Supt. holding our jobs in the balance. We will essentially be forced to retire.
