Details are rushing in about the breakdown in negotiations

Concerned is working on a developing story regarding  the breakdown in negotiations between the Hamburg Teachers and the Hamburg School District.  Details are still coming in, but we will report what we have learned to date.

Hamburg Teachers for a second day met with Steve Achramovitch and other district representatives in an effort to pound out an APPR agreement to both sides liking. Please be reminded,  the school district would not meet with the Hamburg teachers before late December 2012, just days before Christmas holidays, and the teachers voted a resounding no to APPR in the vote Friday January 11, 2013.   It has been reported to Concerned, the the number one sticking point with the teachers is the lack of trust and confidence in Steve Achramovitch and the school administration.

The lack of trust is not unfounded, as a second day of negotiations progress, it was learned by the leaders of the teachers association, that top administrators in the school district were threatening teachers and staff.  The threats were delivered to staff from at least one member of the school administration.  It was reported that this administrator was none other than Hamburg High School graduate, Colleen Kaney, Director of Pupil Services.   According to a source, Ms. Kaney threatened school counselors in a dignity for all students meeting this morning.  Ironically while Ms, Kaney was running a meeting on student bullying, she herself was making threats to staff and in so doing violated the staff members right to association.

Ms. Kaney threatened school counselors that if they failed to vote YES on APPR, they would lose their jobs in February.  Members of the teachers union were asked by Steve Achramovitch, to get over it, and move forward in negotiations.  The teachers association  did not get over it, ended negotiations, and walked away from discussions. Interestingly, the very complaint that the teachers had- mistrust of administration- was realized in the form of threats in a anti-bullying meeting.

Board of Education you are urged to investigate this very serious matter.
Board of Education hire an independent investigator and investigate Steve Achramovitch, Rick Jetter, Colleen Kaney and Barbara Sporz

Wait ! What?
Concerned you are asking our school board to to investigate this very serious matter.we all know that the School board President did the same thing on Friday January 12 when she said in a board meeting "So, we are talking probably 5-10 layoffs or something like that." and don't forget that the vice president said "Shame on the Hamburg Teachers." The School Board will Never get to hire an independent investigator as long as those two have a say. the president and Vice President are just as guilty of bullying

This blog is ridiculously rude and inaccurate. It is one completely one sided and has no basis in reality. The side bar in which you call people names is terrible. Oh, and let me guess, you won't allow this comment to post!

This reason alone to terminate the supt. THis has been going on for a while administrator in hs not the principal also made similiar statements. We believe this was part of the plan freighten the HTA members to get them to vote yes. even if this did go to a vote, it probably would gone down ever bigger tan last fri's vote. This was a no vote on appr , but also a no vote on Steven Achramovitch. This should be the end of The Supt. in Hamburg. I would imagine he is going to spin this blame on someone other than himself.

Boxes were placed in all 6 school buildings for hta imput regarding appr questions & concerns. #1 concern lack of trust in the supt.. This was listed as the most important problem in this whole appr process.

They have been threatening teacher jobs from the start of the APPR negotiation process. In Hamburg the loss of funds = teacher cuts. It has been that way for years, wasn't going to change this time around. Acramovich is going to get rid of the teachers he wants- whether through the APPR process or by forcing them out with layoffs. It is a lose- lose situation for teachers in Hamburg (like always...).

This has been the standard operating procedures with Mr.Achramovitch. Dist Supt. Don O. brought Steve here, I would suggest that the dist supt. would make a strong suggestion to Steve that it is time to step aside. Enough has happened here, actually to much more to mention at this time. It is more than one administrator that has stepped over the line on this one. this was a vote against appr but just as big a vote of no confidence against Steve Achramovitch

Super isn't it a laugh.
I would imagine they would ask their good friends at Erie 1 BOCES to investigate themselves on this one. What they need is an independent investigation on what shake down any administrators had in any of the school buildings in addition to the situation at the DASA meeting. ( dignity for all students)

Geez. I hope the administration wasn't planning on another pay cut for our teachers.

Kudos to the HTA this appr was going to cost the district far more than what the State($$$) was offering. It would have been the end of TENURE as we know it and the end of some excellent teachers careers. Just stating a fact

Thanks for the posts,
The abuse of the powerful is just why appr is not a good fit for education. APPR as time will tell will not improve our children's educational experiences.. It will give those who are power hungry and those that have stock in all the new boutique industrys selling programs & tools necessary to implement & maintain appr. very wealthy. School districts will find it increasingly difficult to balance their budgets due to all the non classroom expenses to maintain appr.

This is not about the classroom, it is a profit driven tool for the private industry and the ALL POWERFUL ADMINISTRATORS, that will be put into the drivers seat to terrorize education. Teaching to the tests is not helping our children. We are successful in Hamburg, because of our teachers and the parents who support their children and teachers.

RTTT and the appr piece is an expensive unproven experiment with our childrens education. For most of us who cannot afford private schools, we stand behind our teachers and say KUDOS for you brave and intelligent stand. Parents

Teachers are powerless against this bully of a supt. and administration.
Our secret ballot was very powerful. This was a strong message to this administration and school board, we have spoken against these types of tactics that have been employed on us for the entire duration that Achramo has been here. No one would listen, he had the school board fooled. He is the reason that this went down, besides being bad for kids and teachers.

Before the digital age this would never be possible, before the digital age dictators continued to exercise total control over their subjects.
Today the low man on the totum pole ( in this case teachers) We are the David taking down Golith.

NYSUT Presidenr Dick Ianuzzi called Commissioner King and told him about the Achramothreats. King called Ogilve and told Ogilive to take over negotiations. Bahhhhhaaahhaaa, little hamburg ny causing NYS NYSUT and BOCES look bad. NYSUT wanted us to pass this, because they were the sell outs who agreed to this in the first, place. hamburg Teachers take your fight to Albany and ouster Ianuzzee, King Ogilve and AchrAmoscum.
