Hamburg Teachers for a second day met with Steve Achramovitch and other district representatives in an effort to pound out an APPR agreement to both sides liking. Please be reminded, the school district would not meet with the Hamburg teachers before late December 2012, just days before Christmas holidays, and the teachers voted a resounding no to APPR in the vote Friday January 11, 2013. It has been reported to Concerned, the the number one sticking point with the teachers is the lack of trust and confidence in Steve Achramovitch and the school administration.
The lack of trust is not unfounded, as a second day of negotiations progress, it was learned by the leaders of the teachers association, that top administrators in the school district were threatening teachers and staff. The threats were delivered to staff from at least one member of the school administration. It was reported that this administrator was none other than Hamburg High School graduate, Colleen Kaney, Director of Pupil Services. According to a source, Ms. Kaney threatened school counselors in a dignity for all students meeting this morning. Ironically while Ms, Kaney was running a meeting on student bullying, she herself was making threats to staff and in so doing violated the staff members right to association.
Ms. Kaney threatened school counselors that if they failed to vote YES on APPR, they would lose their jobs in February. Members of the teachers union were asked by Steve Achramovitch, to get over it, and move forward in negotiations. The teachers association did not get over it, ended negotiations, and walked away from discussions. Interestingly, the very complaint that the teachers had- mistrust of administration- was realized in the form of threats in a anti-bullying meeting.
Board of Education you are urged to investigate this very serious matter.
Board of Education hire an independent investigator and investigate Steve Achramovitch, Rick Jetter, Colleen Kaney and Barbara Sporz
