Rev up the engines

It is no wonder Calkins, Flynn, Dils and Brunner Collins voted NO on March 5, 2013 on Stephenson's resolution to study extending the elementary school day.

According the the Bored of Education Agenda for March 12, 2013, Fisher Bus is being extended (as previously extended), a 5 year contract to cart Hamburg children to and from school.

It is obvious now, Calkins. Flynn, Dils and Brunner-Collins are more concerned about Fisher Bus and the bus contract than they are about getting the kids in Hamburg a longer educational experience.

A FIVE- YEAR CONTRACT WITH FISHER BUS?

THAT IS TANTAMOUNT TO A KINDERGARTENERS ENTIRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAREER.

A FIVE YEAR CONTRACT WITH FISHER BUS TAKES AWAY MORE THAN 6 MONTHS OF EDUCATIONAL TIME FROM CHILDREN OVER THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAREER.

A FIVE YEAR CONTRACT WITH A BUS COMPANY THAT CAN'T GET THE LITTLE ONES TO SCHOOL BEFORE 8:40 A.M.?

BUMBLES MATT DILLS, WHO SITS ON THE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE BUMBLED AROUND SOME SENSELESS GIBBERISH IN AN ATTEMPT TO DENOUNCE STEPHENSON'S  RESOLUTION TO STUDY EXTENDING THE SCHOOL DAY

DOES DILS EVEN SHOW UP FOR THE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE MEETINGS?
DILS COULD CARELESS ABOUT ANOTHER 1/2 YEAR OF SCHOOL FOR KIDS.  MATT DILS HAS SAT ON THE BORED OF EDUCATION FOR THE LAST DECADE NOT HAVING EARNED ONE SINGLE COLLEGE CREDIT.

ENTRUSTING A CHILD'S EDUCATION TO MATT DILS, WHO NEVER BOTHERED TO EARN AN EDUCATION, SEEMS DANGEROUS.

A VOTE OF YES ON THIS RESOLUTION IS A NO VOTE FOR KIDS.
BORED OF EDUCATION DO THE RIGHT THING.

TELL FISHER BUS TO REV UP THEIR ENGINES EARLIER IN THE MORNING, AND COLLECT THE KIDS LATER IN THE DAY.

TELL FISHER BUS IF YOU CAN'T DELIVER THE GOODS ON TIME, HAMBURG WILL FIND A BUS COMPANY THAT CAN.

FIVE-YEAR TRANSPORTATION CONTRACT EXTENSION PER THE BORED AGENDA.

RECOMMENDED MOTION:  “that the Board of Education of the
Hamburg Central School District approves of the following resolution:

WHEREAS, the District desires to extend the present contract (as most recently
extended) for transportation with Fisher Moving & Storage Inc., it is:

RESOLVED, that the Superintendent of Schools of the Hamburg Central School
District (or his designee) enter into an agreement with Fisher Moving &
Storage, Inc. extending the present contract (as previously extended) as follows:

For the school year 2013-14 through and including the 2017-18 school year, the
previously extended rate multiplied by the increase in the regional consumer
price index as provided by the State Education Department for the 12 month
period ending on May 31, immediately preceding the commencement of the
contract extension, not to exceed 3% over the prior year.

All A.M./P.M. in district runs, Potter Road A.M. and shuttles, Pre-Kindergarten,
Field trips and Athletic trips shall be covered by this agreement.

I was going to comment regarding the fact that the BOE did not even want to meet to discuss the possiblity of extending the elementary school day. (Isn't Cuomo trying to encourage it statewide anyway?) And what I was going to say was that if Fisher Bus cannot provide the appropriate transportation then bids should be put out as I know other companies might likely could -if the school day was extended. Then this shows up - really? None of the bargaining units can get a 5 year contract, why should Fisher? This district needs to elect BOE members in May who have the best interest of the students in mind - not that they will always agree 100%, but they will discuss and listen to everyone's ideas and thoughts before surprises happen!!

Sommeone who cares!

Does the Hamburg Central School's work for FISHER CARTING AND STORAGE or does FISHER CARTING AND STORAGE work for the Hamburg School District? May I suggest possible cronyism. Please there is no excuse for this. I have no problem with Fisher Bus, but if this district is short changing my elementary school children, I object to this. Give my kids the extra month or so education that they are not getting presently.

This is upsetting to parents. Please before you sign anything make sure this bus company can deliver the same # of school time as other school districts.

thank you more time please

Why would the Fisher Bus Company even have a seat at the table to discuss extending the school day? They are an outside vendor. Either they can do the job Hamburg school district wants or they can't and Hamburg will hire another a company who can. There are plenty of others...Isn't it the LAW that these contracts are put out to bid?

As with any large scale contract, this should be put out to bid. Instead, it'll be locked in for the next five years. Way to go, Calkins and crew. You're tying the hands of future boards. Does that mean that you know your chances of being reelected are slim to none?

WHAT ABOUT THE HAMBURG CART COMPANY? I GO BY POTTERS ROAD EVERY DAY, AND THERE ARE DOZENS OF BUSSES JUST WASTING AWAY THERE...SOMETIMES WITH ONLY TWO KIDS ON A 50 SEATER. SHAME ON THAT BOE....NOT ONE OF THOSE ASSES WILL GET MY VOTE IN MAY. CALKINS IS A NUT!!!!

we hope so, when they put a bus company before our kids it is a signal for change. My young children receiving 1 months less school time per year is a sever loss of instruction time. Please who is concerned about education on this sb just 3? We need a few more who care . What is wrong with the peditrician on the sb? What is up with her? She should know that this is not in the best interest of all our elementary school children. Favoritism to a friend perhaps.

Was this bid advertised anywhere? Why the rush now, is it because they want to lock this contract down, because a board member is suggesting that our Hamburg kids get the time in school that all other districts in our area are receiving? Please this is just common sense, all other arguments are for other reasons that have nothing to do with kids or education. This is obivious.

Love my kids teachers want more said...

Please, Fisher Bus works for us not the other way around. The school district should direct the bus company to make a longer elementary day happen. The bus company will figure this out if they want the contract. Shame on anyone who cannot see through this.

Matt Dils sits on the transportation committee with the owner of Fisher bus Keith Fisher. Matt Dils arguments against a fair school day missing as much as 30 education days a year because of the short elementary school day defies logical reasoning. Matt Dils attendance on the transportation committee is approx same as his attendance at school board meeting 60% or more missed meetings. Perhaps Matt Dils and Joan Calkins are friends with Mr. Fisher. This is why I am told the ridiculous arguements that have been reported given by Mr. Dils and Dr Calkins FOT NOT GIVING OUR KIDS THE # OF HOURS of instruction time our surrounding disricks are receiving. APPEARANCE IS BECOMING MORE OBVIOUS cozy friendship with the owner of FISHER MOVING AND STORAGE

Serious discussion needs to begin for a longer school day for our elementary children. We need to start now and why the refusal to look into this? Our children are missing out on a month less of school per year as opposed to other schools. Please get the ball rolling for a longer school day. It seems almost impossible that any school member would be against this. Parents

To anonymous 3/10 5:44 pm. I seems to be true that 4 school board members are against this. Dr. Calkins, Matt Dils, Brunner Collins, and Tom Flynn. This is the vote no on beginning to study the possibility of giving our children the 1 months more in elementary education days per year, bring in line with the # of hours that all other districts receive. The reason bussing company had scheduling conflict. Why must all our elementary school kids suffer because of bus scheduling? I am disappointed that these 4 cannot see the direct benefit to all our kids.

Thanks for listening
