School Budget Community Forum

March 19, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Hamburg High School the 2013-14 school budget will be presented at a school community forum.

Come one, Come all

This is your chance to hear the Superintendent and School Business Officer tell you that the upcoming budget proposal carries an 8.25 % tax levy increase, which is above the tax cap.
This increase will require over 60% voter approval at the May School Budget Vote.

School community members your attendance at this meeting is important.
You will have the chance to hear Mr. Achramovitch, who makes in excess of $175,000 in salary and benefits, tell you that the tax levy is going up by an skyrocketing 8.25 %.

What will this do to your tax bill?

This compares to a tax levy increase in Orchard Park Schools of  3.25%.

It appears that this is an extraordinary budget.
Hamburg Schools is going to ask over 60% of those who show up to vote in May to increase their taxes by a record amount.

It is your duty taxpayers to demand an transparent look at all the district expenses.

As has been reported by Concerned Hamburger many times,  Hamburg Schools is spending your tax dollars on needless consultants and lawyers.
So before you open your wallet to give Hamburg Schools more of your hard earned money, perhaps it would be prudent to demand a real look at where your money is going.

Why is our school district paying for Matt Dils to stay on this school board when he cannot make 50% or more of the school board's meetings? There must be laws that make a school board responsible for the business of the schools. How can you do your job when you don't show up. Mr. Dils should step aside for someone with the time and the knowledge regarding education.

Where is the legal expertise that Dr. Joan Calkins claimed that the new supt steven Achramovitch claimed to have when he arrived here? Supt. lawyers do all his decision making, so why are we paying him this big fat salary? He lies and then wants us to support him and Dr. Calkins, are you for real. They have not been good for education.

Dr. Calkins trying hard not to show her true vindictive colors. We know that her new act is only temporary to get our vote. Too little to late. The school morale is very low because of Dr. Calkins unleashing Steve achramovitch.

Economy bad, many homes existing on unemployment and we are talking about going over the cap? This Supt.and school board needs to rethink this. Supt. needs to go and the school bd Pres. also. Please someone step us and run against her.

High priced lawyers we are told. Is the Supt. incompetent?

What is the supt policy, to screw the public? He cannot do his job and Matt Dils should step down, no time or inclination to do what is right for education. What has he done in 10 years on this school board? Is he just one of the good old boys who doesn't know what to look for or what questions to ask? Maybe that is why we have to pay back 1.8.million to the State of N.Y. Mr. Dils needs to pack his bags and leave.

Go figure why anyone of them are still here. Starting with this guy Supt Steven Achramovitch . Anyone who supports him must go. 60% will never fly.

Not just the budget, groups organizing to unionize because of #1 the dishonest supt, that no one respects. Supt treats district employees with distain and vulgarity. Joan Calkins sanctions his behavior and bullying towards staff. This is why she will not get our vote. Defends his actions that are indefenseable.

Everyone is right this 60% vote needed to pass the school districts budget will never do here. It will go down and then what?

What is this I hear on YNN that HCS and HTA close to a deal on APPR? Wny nothing in the Buffalo News?

I will not vote to go over the tax cap. The tax cap was put in place for a very valid reason. Too many school districts and school boards behaved as if they were playing with Monopoly money and were exceedingly wasteful. Even with the cap they still are spending too freely. Starting with superintendent and administrator salaries and legal bills.Try this: FOIL the legal expenditures from 10 neighboring districts and see how outrageous Hamburg's are. The compare administrator salaries found on seethruny. Do they really think taxpayers are going to override the tax cap just to give the board another blank check?

Last year, the only budgets that were defeated were the ones that tried to override the tax cap.

If its going towards ridiculous expenses then no, but I would vote yes if it meant preserving programs and teachers. I am not a teacher, but I wnt my kids have a 1st rate education. I'm steps away from private school, so 8% is still cheaper. As for the APPR- who cares at this point. The federal government might not even be able to make good on the paymen anyway. The cuts to education is essential the race to the top money. The public needs to do their hmwk and not jut jump on board when a headline grabs them. I'm not happy about many things this administration has been doing no I believ that we need to elect fresh blood to he school board. But I'm going o wait and see where my tax money is going before I wave the no flag

The taxpayers will never go for 8.25%. At this rate in 11 years we will have increased our tax bill by 100% and this is not acceptable. We will lose our homes at that rate as a result of outrageous school taxes. Supporting anyone who is not in office now.

Cut administration salaries and positions. Our kids have suffered enough cuts to their programs and teachers.

How many lawyers are we employing here in Hamburg? High priced lawyers and Supt. taking from our kids education. Blood sucking lawyers and supt. sucking the life out of our school district.

Who can afford to live in the Hamburg Central School District? 60 years and we are just getting by on a fixed income.

Why all the lawyers on the payroll? We need to make some changes here and it starts at what we have some control over vote no on budget and vote new people for school board.

treasure trove of trouble with a 8.5% budget increase. Can the over paid supt. and his crew if they cannot deliver.

Anonymous said...

Out of control. Insane people in position of power ruining our district. Starting with Supt. Steve Achramovitch and SB Pres. Dr Joan Calkins.

Vote no, this budget almost 9%^

Never

How many lawyers? What are the legal budgets of our surrounding districts? I will vote NO on this budget at 8%

8.25 % increase not acceptable. 3 administrators at half million in tax dollars need to go if this is the best that you can do. Sorry top down. School board members up for election need to go also. Taxpayer, parent and Hamburg graduate

Acromo makes too much. He should be making about 140. that only saves 30. for the budget hes not the problem. question is, this blog wants to see teachers pay and extras and stuff go up and there also saying no to taxes going up. can you have it both ways? not really.

Anonymous said...

Actually yes. 60 MILLION went somewhere. We should be able to pay our teachers without an 8.5 percent tax increase just like all of the other top districts in WNY do.

to anonymous 3/19 6:41PM. Achramo's salary is not totally reflective here, since it has been reported that Mr. Achramovitch and Dr. Calkins have spend 1/2 MILLION DOLLARS or more on lawyers to manage the district and use tax dollars to sue individuals not for the tax base but to LINE HIS OWN POCKETS. So it is the Supt. and his greed that is alarming.

I heard that the sd is now coming in under the tax cap? Any news on this. thanks

electioneering in all schools Dr. Joan Calkins and Steve Achramovitch.

What are we to believe that over night they give a care. We are being bombarded by Joan popping up all over disturbing our school day. Way over the line.
Achramo in Ken Ton, distrust, Union busting and we all know the rest the same we hear in Greece, budget fails, teachers picket and he continues his same management style here. Achramovitch manages his mistakes with lawyers. Driven out of those two districts for basically the same management syle that he employes here in our school district. Fear is his game and Dr. Calkins allows Mr. Achramovitch to get away with it. Until APPR pushed down for distrust of supt and sb pres., no one would listen to our crys. Well the vote told the true feelings of the HTA. In the ballot box we will show them that we have had enough. Change is needed and a Supt. who respects teachers and staff is in order.

Other posts have stated that it is not just teachers who oppose the two of them. It is an estimate 90% of staff want the Supt. and SB Pres gone. We need to heal and we need to put our faith and trust in new people. Get rid of Joan Calkins and we believe we will be getting rid of Steve Achramovitch also.

Achramovitch cut two assistant superintendent positions and he's doing the work of 3 people. Stop the smear campaign!

Anonymous said...

Mary Ellen Monofo and Gregg Davis were elevated to Ass. Superintendents by Crawford. Dont ya remember, it was only gonna be a title change and then Crawford gave them 19 percent raises. Hamburg NEver HAD so many ADMINISTRATORS AS THEY DO NOW. Achramovitch gets over 175,000 in pay...he should be working 90 hours a week for that kind of money. He just picks up the phone and dials his lawyers to do all the work.

Anonymous said...

Bull,
Achramovitch doing the work of 3 adminsitrators? Who the hell are you kidding? He is dishonest and that is what we care a lot about here. You mean to tell me that Achramovitch is doing the work of a curriculum development professional. He taught only 3 years in the class room. THERE IS NO DEVELOPMENT OF CURRICULUM, Steve is not capable. What is Rick Jetter doing? Personal

Steve is full of hot air in polite terms.
