Concerned is Concerned.
It was brought to the attention of Concerned Hamburger that a respected Hamburg teacher returned to his home on Monday May 20th after teaching the young students of the Hamburg school district only to be met with a process server in his driveway. A letter from the teacher is below, in blue italics. This Hamburg teacher was served and demanded by Harris Beach law firm of the Hamburg School District to report to the "Star Chamber" for questioning regarding, "The Blog" and "The Recording" of the public meeting on 9-21-10.
Why now, after over 2.5 years, does this teacher appear on the stage?
Is it not enough for Joan Calkins, Steve Achramovitch and Harris Beach to go after two teachers, now they are going after a third?
Who will be next?
Perhaps, Joan Calkins and Steve Achramovitch do not like this teacher, his "opt-out" of testing position, his role in the Hamburg Teachers Union and his activity in his home district of Springville. In fact, the teacher who was served to report to the Star Chamber is the same man who was the topic of scurrilous emails between Steve Achramovitch and Springville Superintendent Paul Connolly. Readers if this does not send you over the edge...nothing will. Joan Calkins must be stopped- vote for change and dignity for all staff, students and parents. If anything is perfectly clear, the paranoia of Joan and Steve have gotten out of control, and you the Hamburg taxpayer are footing the bill.
Remember the words of Pastor Martin-Niemölle
The letter from Chris Cerreno..Hamburg Teacher.
"Dear Residents of the Hamburg Central School District,
This afternoon as I was packing my truck, preparing to coach my son's baseball game tonight, I was served a “Non-Party Witness Deposition Subpoena” in the case of the Hamburg Central School District, Joan Calkins, M.D., et al v. SS, LS and MK.
I have to question the motives behind this subpoena. I have absolutely no connection to any of the events in which the defendants have been accused. I do not have any knowledge of who may have recorded the Executive Session or who is the “blogger”.
I do know that I am an active union member who stands up for my fellow educators. I am also strong advocate for public schools trying to save our children's education from harmful reforms. I can only assume that my stance as an outspoken individual has placed a target on my back. There is no evidence or reason to connect me as a witness or person with information on this case.
Harris Beach, PLLC has compelled me to testify on events in which I have no information what-so-ever. I will be forced to take a day off from my teaching duties as a result of the deposition. This will harm my students as I will not be present for instruction. The school district will also incur the cost of providing a substitute teacher in addition to the expense of the attorneys during this hearing.
Forcing me out of the classroom is at best a “fishing expedition”. The taxpayers of Hamburg should be outraged that scarce financial resources that could directed to reduce class size and save programs is being wasted on a frivolous lawsuit.
The residents of the Hamburg Central School District have the opportunity to elect new school board members who can change the direction of our schools. Hamburg has been a symbol of excellence for many years because of the tremendous families and educators that are a part of our district. Recent years have brought a great deal of change in the direction of our schools. Keep that change in mind when you go to the polls tomorrow. We need real leadership in our schools, not those seeking to attack others. We need to get back to what is important, the education of the children of Hamburg.
