A Special Meeting of the Board of Education July 12, 2013

A special meeting of the Hamburg Board of Education will take place on Friday, July 12 at 7:30 a.m. at the Hamburg Administration Building.  According to the Hamburg District web page the board is meeting to make personnel changes.  Concerned Hamburger wonders why after a 3 hour meeting on Tuesday night, according to the Buffalo News, there needs to be a meeting to make personnel changes. This must be something urgent.   It seems to Concerned Hamburger that there could be disagreement among the Board Members regarding the matter of what is published on the district  agenda as four personnel items.

The acting superintendent, Mr. Jetter who was elevated to this temporary appointment on July 9, 2013, also serves the district in the capacity of personnel manager.  Mr. Jetter is getting a stipend to act as superintendent at the rate of $170.00 per day on top of his current annual salary and benefits of over $120,000.  On an annual bases, Mr. Jetter is getting an additional $44,500 to act as superintendent.  First year teachers in Hamburg with a Masters Degree earn $37,300 and do not earn $44,500 until after seven years of service (Hamburg Teachers's Association Contract-SeethoughNY).

What qualifies Mr. Jetter to act as superintendent?
From what has been reported to Concerned Hamburger via many emails from concerned citizens, the answer is, nothing.
Many emails have come to Concerned Hamburger from people claiming to be members of the staff.  It has been reported, Mr.Jetter,  personnel manager, has made many expensive gaffs.  One person claims that the district personnel office, under Mr. Jetter, violated general NYS Civil Service Law costing the districts tens of thousands of dollars with Harris Beach to sort out the errors.

One teacher claimed, with supporting documentation that the personnel office of the Hamburg Central School District under Mr. Jetter has abandoned the well tested model of competitively posting, selecting and interviewing (for) job and teacher openings, and has reverted to the friends and family plan. It was reported that recently, the positions of Hamburg Middle School Principal , a Special Education teacher and a Social Studies teacher were all hired without the well established multi-tiered interviewing process used in all other school districts and hiring authorities across America.  Hiring staff with out competitive search and interviewing procedures violate every fundamental principle of human resource management.  For these acts, Mr. Jetter was rewarded and elevated to acting superintendent earning an additional $170.00 per day.
It seems to Concerned Hamburger that another well tested human resource principle was violated on Tuesday evening by the Hamburg Board of Education; rewarding an employee with a raise and a promotion, when that person has demonstrated little evidence of adequately performing in the position they were hired to do.
The question that remains unanswered; When Mr. Achramovitch brought Mr. Jetter to Hamburger, did Mr. Jetter interview for the personnel position or was he given the wink and a nod?

Why are you assuming such sneaky behavior???? Could it be that they just didn't quite get to everything the other night and perhaps need to finish it up?

You breed hostility. Why rile up folks prior to what could be nothing! GO to the meeting. See what it's about - and if it's something that's not kosher, then bitch. But prior?? That's just rabble rousing.

Handing a long term sub a job with NO interview smells of rotten pool water! Wonder what Jetters relationship is with her. Was she even observed and evaluated? Did she do SLOs? Everyone knows Gallgher and the boys dont do their evals. Do you job and find the best person. NO SURPRISE.SAME DIRTY TRICKS AS STEVE AND JOAN. I will never vote for an HTA candidate again

Just great. I suppose it's true that you just can't make some people happy. I agree with 11:54. Encourage people to go to the meeting and see what's up...and then start assembling the troops when a mistake is actually made. We have to start giving each other credit if we are ever going to succeed.

Mr. Martinez should start doing his job and stop making staff cry instead of making up lies and calling parents to cry to...really Mr. Martinez? How do you claim to be a Christian, ask a few support staff, cleaners, teacher aids and his very own secretary, and you will get all the answers you want. He was chased out of the high school for what reason??? Ask a few kids in the class of 2007- my son for example. Ask a few HHS guidance councilors, for heavens sake, ask Jackie Peffer at UPES. Really? Jim is trying to get his buddies to make him look like the victim. The guy was NEVER A TEACHER. Blah Blah Blah, cry me a river of tears, Jim. My son at HHS has many stories to tell, and ask his guidance councilor.

It was reported by a member of the Hamburg teachers association that he emergency meeting of the board is about hiring a math teacher who has taught in the district only 3-4 months, with no evaluation known to mankind. The board is voting to hire this long term substitute as a probationary teacher. The Board does not think it is important to interview candidates, a bad habit brought to hamburg by Mr jetter. Parents of who read the BLOG- PTSA MOMS AND DADS- you are seeking the resume of lawyers your kids will never meet- go to the meeting and ask for the resume of a math teacher who was NEVER interviewed- now this is something to be pissed off about. Mr. Jetter is jamming through a friend to get a job- and now he is acting superintendent. ARE WE LIVING IN CHICAGO?

Hiring practices in the HCSD have been uneven for quite a while. It used to be that for long term substitute positions teachers were allowed to recommend the person who they wanted in their classrooms while they were out. This is still the case, in certain instances. In others, there is still a cattle call for potential candidates and the teacher's input is disregarded. The hiring practices are inconsistent to say the least.

With Gordon KErr making 130K, Gregg Davis retiring at 140K, and now Jetter at 165K- any pig on the Board should see these guys did nothing in personal. Heck they cant even call the news and get an ad in the paper. I am a teacher and our senior list is a pile of slop because of the admin office. Wake up taxpayers, you are pointing the fingers at the wrong people. BE at the meeting at 7:30 and demand resumes like you did for others. OR is it too early in the morning. THE BOARD IS SLIDING THRU BAD BAD APPOINTMENTS!!!! SHAMEFUL

How, pray tell, did Jetter get appointed to this position? Who wrote the contract? Was the contract coordinated with and approved by legal counsel, or was it presented as an Achramo-style last minute rush job?

The new members better not do this, they are no better then what we just got rid of. We do not deserve the same old. Stand up and vote the right way for education not Jetters friends and family plan. I had to have 2 interviews before I was hired off along term sub list. Please double standards we thought would end with the 3 new sb members. We will find out tomorrow am.

Do the right thing and post all positions not just a select few. Cannot have it both ways school board.

Jetter was given a wink and a nod,

Sorry we wanted change not the same bs

So the math teacher got hired anyway much to the disgust of a board member who feels that they got in on a "wink and a nod"... Seems like that particular method is only criticized when it isn't used for that certain member's personal agenda.

2:26 pm. get a clue. When did that certain member give anyone a wink and a nod? You are a a-hole and need to get a grip. Jetter is so in over his head, he is gurgling for air. Jetter hasnt had any interviews in Hamburg since he got is Job From STEVE! REALLY- who go the wink and a nod???? WHen you are a minority on the board- you cant give out anyfavors. Get a clue and learn how politics works. Duh! The only wink and a nod today was the Math teacher. Jetter wanted her through- want to guess why? Ask the guidance teacher at HMS she can tell ya about Jetter! Ask a few teachers how jetter talks to them. HE is a bully sort of like Kerr, but probably worse.

You're a teacher, 3:10?? Wow.. Hone up on your writing skills and grammar.

That's this district's problem. Its not supposed to be about politics. Its supposed to be about the kids. You all seem to forget that in your desire for power. Who needs to get a grip??

I was at that meeting this morning, and I got my grip. I always thought Sally S was the problem, and after today and on Tuesday I see that she is the solution. I heard she was the problem, but she stood her ground today against that bad hire. I can not believe that the Board let this go thru, they all should be ashame of themselves. Civility is what us parents asked for and Mr. Flynn rolled his eyes this morning when Sally said she wanted the best teachers for the kids. Roll your eyes all you want Flynn, you lost my support. I am checking the credentials of my kids teachers this year, and I sure dont want my son in that math teachers class. Thank you Sally, I had your number wrong. Thank you for wanting the best for my kids. Shame on you Laura, I voted for you and Joan. Wow. what an eye opener, I didnt even need to stop for a coffee on my way to work, I got one be wake up call. Thank you Sally for standing up for what is right for my children. I had it all wrong.
