Fingerprinting or imaging?

Concerned Hamburger got a very troubling email from a person claiming to be a parent.  Concerned is asking the community to object strongly to the fingerprinting of children at school.   Since when should a child be fingerprinted simply to collect a cheese sandwich and a pint of milk at school?

Here is the email in purple below.  Please send Concerned an email if you have any additional information regarding this alleged invasion of your child's privacy.  This is a troubling development.

 Dear Concerned Hamburger,

Are you aware that Hamburg Schools is going to be fingerprinting all of our students?   The new program that will be used for lunch requires that every student be fingerprinted.  Each student will place their hand on the screen daily in order for the system to know who they are.  This is being touted as a good thing, as all students will have to be "fingerprinted" and will have to place their hand on the screen daily, but it is not good.  No child should be fingerprinted at school.  This could be misused in a multitude of ways. Soon they will take a fingerprint off of a fire alarm that was pulled and match it to the childs lunch print.  This is a major problem.  Jetter is not using the term "fingerprinting", instead he is using the term "image", but you are no fool concerned hamburg.  You are the only one who could stop this.  Please help us.

Parent.

This is horrible. We must do something about this. No child should have their fingerprint taken. This should only be done if the parents are aware of what is going on and with their consent. I cannot imagine any parent wanting their child fingerprinted.

Finger printing or imaging no way for any child. To much exposure for our kids. Big Brother wants to track their every move. It is bad enough the State Assessment tests with all our private data out there now they want a DNA fingerprint. No way people

Mr. Jetter, you are a misinformed malcontent.

Jetter is worst decision ever to be made in Hamburg Schools. He is a rotten disrespectful liar who has harassed employees since he arrived. Wake up board. Ask a few teachers what they think, he is a public embarassment. He looks and acts like a 16 year old. Looks like he hasnt even started shaving yet. Shame on you Board, you made the worst decision ever. Get rid of him immediately.

Teachers are under a threat at BVS.
Wearing “Team Boston Valley” T-shirts, about a dozen teachers and staff from Boston Valley Elementary School stood in support of their principal as second-grade teacher Melissa Quinones spoke in support of James Martinez. She said teachers are stressed and feel under attack by comments on a blog about school issues.

“Last night I had to stand up at open house in front of my parents and try to keep it together with a lump in my throat, because I had just heard another rumor that our administrator is going to lose his job, not based on anything that has to do with our students our staff, our parents, but based on lies and rumors and ridiculous nonsense,” Quinones said. “Our staff is under so much stress, because we shouldn’t have to worry about and deal with nonsense like this.”

When you are probationary and you attract so much attention to yourself you deserve to be terminated. Jim Martinez acts like he is out of his mind.

Anonymous 5:51, you are a dangerous person. Is your writing in all caps a symptom of your mental state? It's one thing to accuse someone of writing comments on the Buffalo News article, but quite another to attempt to ruin the reputation of two good people by throwing out wild accusations of an affair. Does printing lies in capital letters anonymously on a blog make them easier for the public to believe? Do you think that will turn public opinion in your direction? The crazier the things you say, the more you will reveal the depth of your obsession. Stop trying to get revenge on anyone who seems vulnerable and maybe try and do something constructive with your life. No one feels bad for you and no one is afraid of you, no matter what kind of lies you anonymously print.

Who cares if the kids are fingerprinted, all of their personal information is accessible to anyone. It is a shame but it is the world folks. The school district has cameras all over the place so get used to this era. I pulling my kids out of Hamburg because the place is a disaster. All this talk about a prinicpal at boston valley? All you people who cry in public about this blog, did you ever think maybe you shouldnt go on it? All you people how come on this thing and write the comments are the problem. I dont see one thing that the blog author writes that is so bad, some of it is kinda humorous. The comments are nasty, some, but dont read them. Dont ya get it dummies, you are bringing more and more people to this site every time you mention it and it shows up in the news. I am new, and I like it, not all the comments but the other stuff is mainly good. Like the thing on fingerprinting kids. Dont like it, Dont come.

Charlie
the news and the hamburg sun, here is what was said at a district meeting, I got it from the hamburg sun news paper online version. If you dont like it dont read it, exactly. from what i can see, this blog has been around for several years with hundreds of thousands of visits, according to the counter. So, whats all the fuss folks, get over it, or dont look. Asking your school board to do something seems like you want them to do what the last board tried to do. read the buffalo news stories from that disasterous attempt.

Hamburg Sun reads.........
Another district resident cited the “ongoing antics” of the Hamburg Educational Ethics blog, stating what she believed to be inappropriate material that violated a code of conduct in relation to district matters. The speaker called the information posted “cyber-bullying” of school officials, citing what she said were defamatory untruths.

“One more time, I ask you to take a stand against [anonymous blog postings from] the Hamburg community,” she said. “Is this the community you want to live in?”

District officials had previously dropped a lawsuit against the site’s bloggers, a suit in which Harris Beach had been involved.

You guys do realize that when you make your own website, you can also put whatever number you want for "visitors". To think that some of you think that hundreds of thousands of actual hits have been made to this website is laughable. And no one really thinks this website is harmful, we think it's funny watching adults act like children.

Just checked my district email. The superintendent interim guy is a freaking nut job. what is with the vampires? He should do his job. No one cares about his energy bus crap. And is the district buying us books? Does he realize we have 30 kids in our classes, and no paper? Keep the books sir, and grow up.

The staff is laughing at Rick Jetter. After the embarrassment of opening day and then his insane letter the next day- now vampires and buses, we wonder if the man is eating mushrooms and smoking weed. Earth to the Superintendent, we have kids sitting in 3 or 4 study halls, return to planet earth and do your job you freak. He makes Steve look good.

Is the Superintendent not doing his job? I feel like things are pretty darn organized when it comes to management of the buildings...and with a record low number of administrators, too! I am also wondering who paid for all those books, but staff morale is at an all-time low (and has been so low for the last several years), I would expect a Superintendent to attempt to address it. In terms of his methods...maybe he started his career teaching elementary school. Whatever. I dig that he's trying.

Correction anonymous 9:39 am 9/21

the Hamburg Central School District did not drop the law suit against this blog they lost in NYS Supreme Court. District spent thousands of tax dollars with Harris Beach. All this is documented in the Buffalo News. Accross the Country advocates of the 1st amendment were watching with support of this Blog. A Fan of the Original Posts, not always the comments. We as parents learn more here.

I never though I would agree with 4:56 pm. Jetter makes Steve look good. No experience and childish.

6:21 am: You dig that Jetter is trying? At over $165,000 per year at age 36, we shouldnt have to expect that he try. We need s superintendent with talent, vision, experience and maturity. This guy should be teaching kindergarten. What a dumb ass move the board of education made! Are those 7 members smoking weed? We know Laura Hetter is a dumbbell, but what about the others. Rick Jetter should be sent down to pre-k, that is his mentality.

I heard laura heeter and Jetter had a thing once...

I am a veteran teacher (over 20 years) and I happen to think Dr. Jetter is doing a great job! In my 20+ years in this district there has never been such a positive, energetic superintendent. I think he is what this district needs! He has had more communication with the faculty in just one month than all the other superintendents combined.

I am a veteran teacher (20 plus) years on the job, and I have never seen such a crazy person as Dr. Jetter. No one in the district listens to him. Jetter is the cry baby little boy blue, none other than Cardinal Wosley.
Little Boy Blue...

A Little Boy Blue come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow the cow's in the corn.
But where's the boy who looks after the sheep?
He's under a haystack fast asleep.
Will you wake him? No, not I - for if I do, he's sure to cry

Fingerprinting our kids does not give away any DNA.

This place is a joke. I come here for entertainment only, as many do. Don't let your hit counter fool you. Worse than the National Enquirer. Please don't think people actually take this blog seriously.

Anonymous 6:39 pm fingerprinting my child or any child is personal. Unique to one individual my child or your child. No two are alike except identical twins. So yes it is as important as DNA. This is not a joke.
I sort through the crap but the main piece or post is usually appreciated and informing. People will comment as they view the main post or just about anything. A rational person can sort through the crap.
