Commissioner King Gets Spanked

New York State Commissioner John King gets a 23 minute spanking from parents, teachers and community members in the Poughkeepsie, New York region.   The Commissioner attempted to justify the State's implementation of the Common Core by going so far as telling white lies to the large audience in attendance.  The segment that you can view here, is the 23 minute public comment session which was cut short from the 1 hour planned due to the Commissioner's prattling for over an hour.  Common Core Standards were approved by the New York State Regents for  English Language Arts & Literacy,  and  Mathematics. The implementation of Common Core involves an overhaul of curricula, pedagogy and assessment.

These changes have not gone over well in New York State.
New York State Commissioner King knew the tests were flawed before they were administered to the students.
Parents, teachers, administrators, board of education members and community activists are outraged by the corporate takeover of New York State public education and the adverse impact this is having on the children across the State.  New York State has always led the nation and the world with the most rigorous curricula and assessment model.  The New York State Regents diploma was the gold standard, and it seems that Commissioner King is trying to fix what was never broken in the first place.

The Hamburg Community must speak up on this nonsensical issue.  Parents and the Board of Education must prepare a joint statement and send a loud message to Commissioner King that corporate education is not welcome in Hamburg, New York.  The community must be prepared to take a stand before it is too late to turn back.  Teachers are becoming increasingly fearful to speak up because of possible backlash from school administrators who "take care"of vocal teachers by filing Part 83 charges with the Commissioner.  No doubt, the Commissioner is interested in teachers who buck the system he is jamming down their throats and stand up for what is right for the education of children.

It is time for the Hamburg Community to take a stand, and join fellow New Yorkers from Poughkeepsie and push back the Common Core and standardized testing.

What is a Part 83? Is this something that happens to people who speak up about the "reform agenda"? I wonder what the lawyers would say about that? Oooppps, they are the ones doing it.

Commmissioner King cancelled everything because his plan is garbage. The word is getting out Op out enough of our children and things will have to change.

Experimenting with our kids and their futures. We have lost all control, the parents are angry. This is what we need to be have discussions about.

Concerned, thanks for the info, we are concerned and we need to become more involved in this NCLB forced mandate on our kids and their teachers. This is the brave new world and I am not liking it. It is making our children feel like failures, they are hating school and just imagine the poor teachers.

Commissione Kings' kids attend private montessori school. Says alot about his faith in public education. This is all we can afford so we depend on the public schools.

op out& change will come

Could you imagine if this blog spent more time talking about our kids education like this post does and less time whining and crying about all of the petty crap? Oh to dream.....

10:33 please look at the posts on this blog going back 3 years- I think you are confusing the blogger with the community which is hijacking each other. It is the commenters NOT the blogger. Check it out- really look hard and see, and stop listening to those hijacking progress. Open your eyes- listen to the crackpots who go to board meetings, they are the problem. I love this blog and I love that those who are bothered by it keep making it the biggest deal in town. Fools, really a bunch of fools. Rock on Concerned Hamburger- and where are your Hamburglar awards? There is a whole new bunch of idiots to award. Bring those back.

Public education is hyjacked by corporate greed and political contributions. My kids are not enjoying school as they once have. Too much pressure on our kids and out kids teachers. It has become a toxic learning environment being forced down our throats by the likes of Pearson Testing.

COMMISSIONER KING HAS CANCELLED ALL COMMUNITY PTA SPONSORED PUBLIC MEETINGS. PUSH BACK IS SEVERE WITH THESE PARENTS AND GROWING HERE AND AROUND THE STATE. Our young kids are dreading school because the tension these tests are placing on them teachers and their principals.

opt out and sent the strongest message to Albany and the law makers who have the power to stop this.

New York State has allowed corporate take over of public education, and it happened over night.

Parents will make the difference, teachers are at risk as was report by Doug 4:07 pm. This group of control freaks will try to Part 83 any teacher who is vocal against the high stakes testing.

Supt of W. Seneca Dr. Mark Crawford is out in front of this and very vocal, speaking out against NCLB and RTTT. He sees it for what it is a failure to education. Kudos to Mark Crawford former supt. of Hamburg.

We admire and respect the few educators who speak out in what is wrong with NCLB. Parents & vocal

I was at the parent meeting tonite-I think Wendy Evendon did a good job tonight. It is pretty sincere she wants us to hire a good superintendnent. Thank you Wendy well done. That was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Thank you Wendy, you are the one that made sense. Ed Piazza and James Martinez were like bouncers at some strip club- I mean rollar skating rink. Thank you Wendy-you rock.

Everyone is awfully quiet today after the meeting last night.......looks like the truth is scary to some.

I filed a complaint today with the attorney generals office and the state comptroller- I heard Dan chia chia talk about legal bills, and as I lawyer I wondered how 15 foil requests could cost 40k. Seems like the district has something to hide. The comptrollers office had me on the phone for an hour- they seem interested in hamburg. Maybe the real truth will surface. If anyone wants to call the state comptroller and report excessive legal bills please do- but give yourself atleast an hour. I was shocked how responsive and respectfull the state was to me as not as a lawyer but as a taxpayer and graduate. Lets have an independent investigate the district- not chia chia- he obviously has an agenda. Please BOE- I voted for you all- except Collins-hire an investigator to look into all of this strangeness.

King cancelled all meeting after what happened in Poughkeepsie. Parents mad as we are here in this part of the State.

As of today the Commissioner is forced to keep those scheduled public meeting dates.

Laura Heeter,

just wants to be popular. She made promises and now protests to much. All will out on her part.

Anonymous said...

Here comes the State Controller- lets see who runs and hides now.

Anonymous said...

Is it true that the state comptroller is coming to the school district to investigate the misuse of taxpayers dollars. I heard the lights were on in the administration building well into the night. Giant paper shredders could be seen through the window and the sounds of shredding filled the crisp evening air. Perhaps it shall come to pass that the comptroller will "pry open the books" and see that former President Joan Calkins was using the district's services of attorneys for her own personal agenda. Even at the University of Buffalo, we do not spend 40 k in FOIL requests. When a lawfirm sucks 40 k out of school district to presumably deny FOIL requests- there is a problem. The legal community is a buzz with Hamburg drama and the local lawyers who are going way out on a limb, to what end? Just sayin, ofcourse.

Johnsen's suggestion that the whole board resign so we can start over makes sense. Chia's suggestions to strong, but he made sense to.

Let me get this staight, Laura Heeter who took thousands of dollars in donations from friends all spring long and Laura Heeter who used Mr. Tresmond all spring long for legal advice. Laura Heeter who is on tape saying all of these things, yes another tape, then stands up at a meeting and cries. Is she is crazy lady. I guess more tapes will need to go viral- oh Laura, you are as stupid as you look. Ask yourself Laura if the DAs office wouldnt be interested in what you have done. The only one who committed election Fraud was Joan Calkins and Laura Heeter- is that why they are fast friends now? Check out the story about Joan Calkins on this blog- I read it this week and almost spit my coffee out. Laura Heeter needs to resign ASAP.

I am a parent of Boston Valley Student. I wonder why somepeople in this community do not see there actions as harassment and bullying. I wonder how adults can act like sick children. We in Boston are all too aware of a young boy who has riduculed mocked harassed even peed on by kids AT SCHOOL. Teachers at Boston Valley knew about it, one teacher who was assigned to teach this wonderful little boy mocked the student herself. THe cafeteria monitor made the little boy sit on the floor. THe Principal stood in the cafeteria when other kids threw food at the little victim. What happened to the food throwers- they were told to write apologies three times. The district and the teAcher engaged in a cover up. This lawsuit is in NEW YORK STATE Supreme Court Now and the district, the superintendent, the teacher are all named as defendents. The district has dirty hands on this, and all the community can worry about is getting rid of this current school board who hasnt been on for more than a couple months. What about Joan Calkins, Greg Wichlacz, Dils, Collins, Reynods , Balaya, and others who were on the Board when this little boy in Boston was harassed. What about their conduct? Ask Joan about this situation, as PResident of the BOE she knew all about it. Why doesnt the community look at the teacher of this little boy- she is now at Armor and her dad was on the board for years. Talk about a cover up, friends and family, harassment and what ever crap some people are saying. Hamburg has a teacher at Armor who is the daughter of a former Board Member who allowed a little boy to be harassed. Ask Jim MArtinez about this situation. His "toy cop" skilss were dropped on this. What a horrible rotten group of teachers, parents and administrators for taking part in a lynching. Look at the facts JOAN CALKINS KNOWS ALL ABOUT THIS BOY. You are a sick group and when the jury returns a virdict on class involving the little boy the READ dirt of Hamburg will be all over the news- not the made up innuendo crap that has been designed by a sick building principal, and angry group of parents and a maniac lawyer, mayor and local judge and doctor. Shameful and sick- no wonder it is said Hamburg has a huge drug problem the kids are self-medicating from the cancer in the system. I been watching this mess unfold and you people are sick. Worry about the real problems and if any of you pray, pray for a little boy who was the victim of a sick group of people at Boston Valley School. My kids are leaving soon for a new district. Good By, and may GOD help all of you.

Joan Calkins is friends with Dils and Wichlacz. Now, if that isnt the funniest damn thing ever to witness. Joan, Greg and Matt wouldve been those guys serving you your meals at Vassar or cleaning your dorm room. What a complete joke you are. As a former board president with a district ready to be taken over by the state comptroller, you really need to get some new cordoroy slacks in a penal code shade of orange for when they come looking for you. So when does the audit start?

Response to Doug,

An independent audit with all the facts and not a one sided Salam Witch Trial.

Foil (freedom of information law) requests should not cost us anything. We have free legal service in Albany just dealing with foil requests. Why did we have to consult with attorneys at perhaps $300 to $450 and hour for service that are readially available to all of us. The laws are straight forward and are for anyone of us to use it is our right to inspect the books of any public entity. It is the law and a good one. It is designed for public officials to be transparent and accountable to those that elect them. Sorry no one should be criticised for exercising their right for freedom of information or FOIL.

Did you see the picture of Laura Heeter on the flyer that was mailed out at election time? Ask Laura where that picture was taken. Laura's election cost over $2,000 and she only paid $250 of it. At the meeting the other night Laura made a claim that she would have won the election if she ran by herself...hahaha, what a joke. Laura is a two-faced liar. Two years ago the people who put her on the board offered to help her and she declined their offer. She was so afraid to be affiliated with the people who offered to help her that she put an editorial in the hamburg sun explaining that she was "running alone" etc. She then got crushed in the election and took 4th and did not get on the board. She came in approximately 100 votes behind joan calkins. Logic would dictate that she would have come in 100 votes behind Joan again this year (2013) if she ran her own campaign again. If she did come in 100 votes behind Joan this year she would have once again come in 4th place. Maybe Laura thinks that she went from 1012 votes in 2012 to almost 2000 votes in 2013 just because of her phony smile?.? Laura is a true phony, who makes it a point to play "fake nice" with everyone she meets. All Laura is worried about is how she is perceived by the masses. If 100 people went to a board meeting and said that they wanted Ronald McDonald to be Superintendent, she would immediately endorse "RONALD". Laura does not stand for what is right, or what she promises to stand for, Laura stands for what is good for Laura and what she believes will make her look good. Laura is also a liar about her education, certification and teaching experience. She has never had new York state teaching certification and she has never taught anything. When Laura comes up to your and makes her phony smile, you should know that she is probably going to talk shit about you when you walk away. Laura's only "real skill" is to run around hamburg and gossip about everyone else. She has no real job (no laura serving coffee and brownies is not a real job), she has no teaching experience or any real intelligence. She runs around promoting "opting out of state tests" but this writer knows first hand that she didn't even know why students should be opting out, until this past spring when "a real teacher" explained it to her in "elementary terms". Trust me, Laura Heeter is not your friend. Laura Heeter is not a good person. Laura Heeter is a liar and double crosser. Also, this is off topic, but I am wondering,,,,is Laura taller than Dan Chia Chia?

3. You are acting like you lost your mind.
4. Many of the board members think it is not safe for you to be around kids.
5. You have 21 months left of probation.
6. There is NO CHANCE of your crazy ass becoming tenured.
7. Go back to driving ambulances you crazy.
8. This writer predicts that the board will terminate Martinez by May of 2015.
9. YOU BETTER START SAVING YOUR MONEY JIMMY. The last time "this writer" predicted two people would be "gone" they were gone, by August 2013. You are on borrowed time Jim.

Hmm, as if this puzzle is hard to put together. I heard about that meeting, I heard that meeting recorded. Wow, if there isnt a lawsuit pending there sure should be. What disgusting slobs. Why dont they look at the drug problem or like some writer said the giant lawsuit in the courts now because of an elementary ed teacher allowed a kid to be bullied. Maybe the parents at arrmor need to ask about their teachers and the bully records of the one from Boston Valley. Gee Mike Melisz- I am shocked at you- you have always done good by most folks. What is wrong? Is the village judge getting to you head? I am shocked. Thanks to God I didnt know about that meeting because I for one would have spit at Dan Chiaachia. Dan Chiacchia, since when is $35000 not a lot of money as you said? Dont you know first year teachers dont make that in Hamburg and teacher aids make only 10 bucks and hour.

Mr. Chiacchia suggested that people who once worked for the district should not be allowed to run for the board of education- it gives them a chance to settle vendettes. LOL Dan. Are you sure you went to law school- are you familiar with Constitutional Law- Federal and NYS? A letter idea is that a lawyer whose partner is a judge, who was admonished by the NYS Judicial Ethics Committee shouldnt be allowed again to run for village judge. Its a really bad idea to drum up business from the bench, isnt it? What a strange man.

Laura Heeter is a liar. Several times during the 2013 election she was caught double crossing the person(s) who were paying for her election and doing all the work. Both times the person(s) replaced her with another candidate. Both times Laura begged her way back on. The VERY MUCH wanted to be on the flyer that seemed to be so successful the year before. Laura lied repeatedly. Laura is a complete phony. You cannot believe one thing she says. She only cares about what the majority of the community thinks. She is not a good person. She has no moral compass. This is a tip for everyone. when you talk to laura, notice how she always talks crap about everyone else. You probably think she does not talk about you that way,,,but guess what, she does. She is a real slim ball.

Why spend all of this money on legal fees when there are still so many laid off teachers who deserve their jobs back? This is so sad. Money is being spent everywhere it shouldn't. This is so wasteful! We could have hired back at least ten teachers by now. Our kids are in classes with 30+ other kids. I'm sorry, but when there are children without desks because of how crowded a classroom is, clearly our schools are understaffed. Just seems like common sense to me.

I was in the office at Boston Valley one morning and witnessed Martinez ripping into a teacher. I was absolutely disgusted that a principal would scream at a teacher that way with his office door open. If a student had walked by, they would have heard every word. The ranting lunatic seemed to have nothing more important on his mind than not losing his job. I felt so bad for that poor teacher who was trying so hard to explain her reasoning but Jim was having none of it because he apparently was afraid of losing his job. It's sickening to me that the teachers in that building have to put up with that kind of humiliation and disrespect from someone who clearly is only interested in his own preservation and not the welfare of his teachers or students.

On Staff at UPES

We are supporters of Joan Calkins.
We are also starting to question her motives after that meeting at the Fair Grounds last Thursday. What I am concerned about is Jim Martinezs' alarming behavior. Attacking everyone including the Governor and the Ed. Comm. Administration needs to evaluate him. He appears to be over reaching and possibly a liability to our school district.

Too funny how little people actually know on this board.....
A: If anyone knew the icy relationship between Tom Moses and Steve Walters, they would know that he certainly did not invite Steve or Amy Ziegler to the meeting.
B: Villages races are non-partisan, meaning that political affiliation is not considered, or even mentioned during campaigning, so suggesting having Republicans at this meeting will hurt him is silly.(Also, the highest concentration of Republican voters townwide live in the Village anyways)
C: Please, by all means, go out and get someone to run against him and you will learn how real politics work, not this petty little school board stuff.
D: Efforts have been made to consolidate the Village and Town in the past and failed miserably. Other than merging small departments, the residents of the Village have stated time and time again that they are willing to pay more in taxes to maintain their government and police department. Most people in the Village who are not embroiled in the ridiculousness of these petty school issues know this.
E: If you are worried about elections, I suggest you get to work on next year's school board election because the majority is going to swing and some people are going to be in trouble.

Village Politics doesnt have political parties- but they will when the next election comes along. Get rid of the mayor and the trustees- and lets see when the people of the village see how much their police are making that they dont want to get rid of the crooks running the place. It wont be same old, same old any more. Nice try, but politics is everywhere and its coming to Tom Moses and the Trustees of the Village. OUR TAXES ARE CRAZY!!! I bet the behavior of the Village Judge wont help matters either. I bet Tom Moses is a nice man- but he should be running a bake sale NOT Village Govt. SOme of the decisions have been questionable.

The Village officials should not meddle in the Town of Hamburg or School District affairs. Nor should the Hamburg Town Board or the Hamburg School Board meddle in the Village of Hamburg affairs.

As far as taxes we are all over taxed and if we can save ourselves from losing our life long residences we need to investigate ways to save us money. We are retired and our income is not growing as fast as our outlay of bills. Our largest bill is our property taxes. So yes to the Mayor, he should concentrate on what he can do to stop the increases to our Village taxes. The Town Government and School should do their part in keeping our taxes down.

Lets see how much money the village keeps collecting to keep the cops employed. I wonder why they dont do anything about the drugs in Hamburg. We hear its really bad. Lets see during the next election if we can run on a promise to merge the village cops with the town cops. That would save us taxpayers alot of money. I mean we do not need them at all.
